Afghanistan's ruling Taliban has mobilised 300,000 fighters, the group's defence minister said today. It has also warned neighbouring Uzbekistan against co-operating with any US military strikes after a US spy plane was shot down near the border.
"In the present situation the ministry of defence has registered an extra 300,000 people who are experienced in jihad [holy war]," Mr Mullah Obaidullah said in a statement in Kabul.
"They have been registered in the capital, the borders and other important sites".
The statement said more mujahedin were being registered across the country and that hundreds of thousands of people had expressed their willingness to fight.
"We have instructed the whole mujahed nation to prepare themselves for and to wage jihad at any time they think it is necessary," it said.
The Taliban has no standing army and relies on volunteers to fight the last remaining opposition forces in the north of the country.
Do they really have 300,000 extra weapons with ammo?
I wonder how many of the 300,000 are sick, hungry, fearful, old-men, women and children.....

"Obi-dull-brain" has farcical delusions of grandeur if he's relying on 300,000 people who's sole experience in 'holy war' has been protesting in the streets of Kabul a couple times a year -a basic act of 'warrioring' which amounts to a can of gas poured on an effigy while trying to avoid catching oneself on fire- something which has indeed occurred more than once in Kabul in pursuit of a so-called 'holy war.'
Sheesh, my cats have a better chance of success in their "holy war" against the squirrels in my yard.

Where does one gain experience in Jihad? Moreover, if they are experienced, I'll take that as an admission of complicity in the WTC travesty. Hence, they have provided their own proof. Now, turn over Bin Laden.
I'm sure most of them have guns. But as for ammo, that is quite another story. They like to pop shots up in the air a lot for the fun of it. And they aren't exactly rich. If they do have a lot of ammo, I would wonder if it came from China.
