"Now I don't want to offend or anything, and I don't mean this sarcastically, but are you serious when you say you don't see a connection between Lennon's song and communism????"

Nope, absolutely not. What are wars, crime, and fights in the world most often fought over? Religion, and possessions. The song is just saying "imagine" if these didn't exist, the world would most likely be a peaceful world. I am not saying we should get rid of them, (OF COURSE NOT) and he didn't either. It is just saying "IMAGINE" if they didn't exist there would be peace. Imagine is the main keyword in the song!

I guess we could pick apart just about any song lyrics and interpret them the way we see fit.

By your reasoning one could write a song to say "Imagine there are no minorities" since an absence of minorities would end racial conflict. Does that make it less offensive for your, or my, ears?

And while you sit there at your comfy keyboard imagining whirled peas our men are going out to defend your right to imagine any foolish thing you want. Imagine this, rock.

PILING ON:

What are wars, crime, and fights in the world most often fought over? Religion, and possessions.

Religion is a unifying force. Throughout history, the absence of modern religion led to endless tribal conflicts. See Africa today, the Middle East in the 6th century and Germany in the 3rd century.

So-called religious wars rarely are. The agressor or defender will often use religion (or race or ideology or culture) as a tool for gaining alliances.

Sort of like the Koran.
Or the Bible.
