This morning on Fox News, they ended a segment with a clip of Neil Young, in his old cowboy hat, singing IMAGINE. This was at last nite's show in Hollywood to presumably benefit the families of the victims of the act of war in New York.

my feelings exactly. I, too, like the song and am a fan of the Beatles and Lennon ... as a musician and songwriter... but the marxism always put a craw in my belly. Imagine is just that an imagination that everyone would just submit to being and nothing else - sheeples. I can't be a sheeple (been there, not for me anymore). And what about singing American Pie? I love that song, but don't understand why it was included. What was that all about?..."this will be the day that I die" sure was inappropriate under the circumstances. But then again, I'm probably taking it out of the "true" meaning and taking it for word value. I just hope they raised money to help the victims of this horrendous time (not strong enough word).... NO TO NWO.

Notice that the peace p*ssies didn't start mobilizing after the attack....they waited until the U.S. started the plans for retaliation. Also, you will never see any of them board a plane, go to the agressors and protest them in their own country. Some dedication to peace!

Also, I never said I was a big Lennon fan. I never really cared for his music. I'm a more heavy rock kind of guy, and prefer classics from Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Aerosmith, etc, etc. But I get the strange feeling if some here had the power to censor these lyrics some would in a heartbeat because of the interpretation of the song is about communism. That is the sad part of it all.

September 11 Fund

How will funds be allocated?

United Way and The New York Community Trust are meeting with city, state, and federal agencies and representatives from relief organizations and other nonprofit service providers. We are assessing individual and community needs and identifying where government money will be contributed. We are determining the gaps and will provide emergency assistance for victims and their families, grants that meet the needs of others affected by the disaster, and support to rebuild communities.

Broad categories of need that we have identified to date, include:

* Increase the ability of disaster-assistance agencies to respond to emergency needs.

* Sustain the psychological well-being individuals and families in New York and other affected communities.

* Support the social-economic recovery of individuals, families, and communities.

* Support the economic rebuilding of lower Manhattan.

* Ensure the capacity of nonprofits to continue to provide services.

* Monitor and mitigate the environmental impacts of the disaster.

* Promote respect and tolerance within New York and other affected communities.

Final goals for the Fund will be decided upon by the governing bodies that is being developed in consultation with other funders and experts.

Who will determine the policies, procedures, and operating standards of The Fund?

A governance structure is being developed that will include business and community leaders. We are committed to the highest level of accountability and impact.

Is the Fund exclusively for New York or really a national fund that will help other individuals and communities?

The September 11th Fund is a national fund. While a significant portion of the funds will be used in the New York City/Tri-State area, we know that individuals and families from other communities have been affected. The Fund will provide support to help meet their needs and to those of their communities.

Can donors restrict their gift?

Given the enormity and breadth of the needs, we encourage donors to give to the general Fund, so that dollars can be directed to where they are needed most.  What is The New York Community Trust? The New York Community Trust was established in 1924 to improve the quality of life in New York City and help people with their philanthropy. An aggregate of 1,500 charitable funds set up by individuals, families and business, The Trust last year distributed over $145 million in grants throughout the New York region and all over the country for issues related to children and families, health, community development, education, and many other worthwhile causes. Their Web site address is www.nycommunitytrust.org.  What is United Way of New York City? United Way of New York City (UWNYC) is a volunteer-led organization dedicated to helping New York’s most vulnerable citizens become and remain self-sufficient. UWNYC funds a network of the most effectively health and human services nonprofits in the five boroughs; mobilizes collaborative efforts to address our community’s most pressing needs; and provides management assistance, technology training, donated computers and more to help nonprofits achieve maximum impact. UWNYC’s Web site address is www.uwnyc.org. Back to Top This information was updated 9/20/01. Copyright © 2001 United Way of New York City - All rights reserved.

I don't understand how anyone would disapprove of the show. I think people are letting their biases get in the way in this time of need.

The show sucked. It was not thematic. They were showcasing their own dubious talent and pursuing their own agendas. If they thought they were trying to help, it was a gross perversion of the word.

Why would you get angry at them? You don't think it's a good cause? Donating their time in very short notice to raise millions of dollars for the victims?

They were there because their regular concerts were cancelled out of fear, safety, or respect.
If the public reaction is any guage, I would guess that the grand total raised was $12.36, after expenses, of course.

You are making a generalization based on the complaint of one song.

PILING ON:

What are wars, crime, and fights in the world most often fought over? Religion, and possessions.

Religion is a unifying force. Throughout history, the absence of modern religion led to endless tribal conflicts. See Africa today, the Middle East in the 6th century and Germany in the 3rd century.

So-called religious wars rarely are. The agressor or defender will often use religion (or race or ideology or culture) as a tool for gaining alliances.

Thank you for the link.

I do a lot of research and one area I investigate are foundations and how they use the money for "their" causes.

This will be no different.

from Chapter 2
Ten Planks of the Communist Manifesto:

1. Abolition of property in land and application of all rents of land to public purposes.
2. A heavy progressive or graduated income tax.
3. Abolition of all rights of inheritance.
4. Confiscation of the property of all emigrants and rebels.
5. Centralization of credit in the banks of the state, by means of a national bank with state capital and an exclusive monopoly.
6. Centralization of the means of communication and transport in the hands of the state.
7. Extension of factories and instruments of production owned by the state; the bringing into cultivation of waste lands, and the improvement of the soil generally in accordance with a common plan.
8. Equal obligation of all to work. Establishment of industrial armies, especially for agriculture.
9. Combination of agriculture with manufacturing industries; gradual abolition of all the distinction between town and country by a more equable distribution of the populace over the country.
10. Free education for all children in public schools. Abolition of children's factory labor in its present form. Combination of education with industrial production, etc.

also excerpt:
"There are, besides, eternal truths, such as Freedom, Justice, etc., that are common to all states of society. But communism abolishes eternal truths, it abolishes all religion, and all morality, instead of constituting them on a new basis; it therefore acts in contradiction to all past historical experience."

The didn't have time to get their phonied-up glitz together. It didn't remind me of anything so much as it did those photo spreads of starlets without makeup. You know, the ones than make you involuntarily shriek in horror.

The worst thing was, their hearts really weren't in it. It needed a focus they could readily identify with. For example, if it had been a benefit to raise money for all AIDs victims, lesbians, and gays who died in the conflagration (they're still getting the numbers together), they would have been much more effecitve.
