"Infinite Justice" offensive to Muslims
NPR | self

Posted on 09/20/2001 9:27:25 AM PDT by van_erwin

I just heard Donald Rumsfeld on the radio answering reporters' questions, and one reporter asked if the operation in the middle east would really be named "Infinite Justice."
When Rumsfeld replied that he had 'heard' the name, but that it might not be the actual name of the action, the reporter replied that he had spoken to Muslim clerics, and that "infinite justice" was offensive because "only Allah can provide infinite justice."
To which Rumsfeld replied that we would not name it anything that might be offensive!

Thoughts?

I tell, you there'd be a lot less fear and suspicioun of Arab-Americans if more of them would outwardly proclaim that they're with us and against the terrorists.

EXACTLY! I have seen very little of that. Your are right. Every single one I have seen or read of in the media says NOTHING about what happened. Only whining about possible hate crimes. Perhaps they are fearful, the FBI is reportedly investigating 40 or so reports of hate crimes against people of mid-Eastern origin. They could, however, do something to help stop it by standing up as AMERICANS and denouncing the actions of the terrorists. I am not blaming them, but they could possibly mitigate some of it.

But for now, I wish Gore had won. He wouldn't be handling the situation any better, but at least we would have expected it.

Oh Please!! Why don't we all stop wishing for instant gratification and give the President and his folks time to do this thing properly. We are so used the things happening RIGHT AWAY that we forget that sometimes patience is the most important virtue!

I for one will be watching the President's speech tonight with great interest, but I sure don't expect him to tell us everything his administration is going to do! Do you really want bin Laden and his friends to know when we're coming? We don't NEED to know all the details. I'd prefer to get the information when it is a suitable time, like after operations so our soldiers are not harmed by prior knowledge on the part of our enemies.

And Just why in the HELL should we care what Muslims think? Are THEY running our country now? Should we check with them before we utter a word? Radical "Muslims" are responsible for the deaths of 5500 of OUR citizens and probably the panic selling on our stock markets.

Those that chose to support them are as much this World's enemy as the terrorists themselves.

Pray tell, oh wise judge of human intent from 10,000 miles distant, how do we distinguish those who assist the terrorists for ideological reasons from those who are being forced to do so at gunpoint?

Diversity, like communism, is a stalemate. Nothing can be done because any action will offend someone.

My nomination for quote of the day.

Perhaps we can compromise: let's bomb first and then agree on a proper, inoffensive name?

My thought is that calling this operation, "Infinite Justice" was designed especially to taunt the terrorists who used just that language to justify their attack on the World Trade Center. It's meant to get them steamed, just like President Bush, Sr.'s continual mispronunciation of Saddam's name during the Gulf War!
