I did see Britt discussing this and i thought it was fantastic. For far too long, it has been less than cool, or intellectual, to consider evil personified as Satan. i distinctly remember our parish priest's homily, around the time of the release of the movie, the Exorcist. A point he made, that stuck with me all of these years, is that it is Satan's greatest coup, that no one believes in him.

Yes, it's good to see some people come to grips with the reality of what we are dealing with.

The Book of Revelations clearly describes Satan's hatred of Israel and describes him as actively and relentlessly attempting to destroy them and their nation.
Obviously Satan deals the same way with all who support Israel.

The sort of sick and depraved hatred, the utter self deceit and spiritual blindness that allows people to believe that committing suicide in order to kill women, children and unsuspecting civilians, will actually be pleasing to God and earn them a place in heaven is clearly from the pit of Hell.

As tragic as this is, it is also a clear sign that the evil behind terrorism, Satan, actually recognizes and identifies us as on the side of good and as a defender of God's people, Israel in this world..which is why he targets us as a nation.

I agree. And that is also why we must be, during this critical time, people of prayer. Whether we are beginners or proficients doesn't matter- we must be faithful to prayer in order to hear God.

As I said above, satan is very cunning and clever, but if we are prayerful, we can remain on the right path. If not, we will become, ourselves, targets, and his best and favorite method of attack is to simply mislead us.

He can attack as forceably as he likes. Don't you understand? He is powerless against God. Always has been. All he can do is tempt people to misuse their free will.

These terrorists are not Satan, they are poor bastards who listened to him.

Yes, I do feel sorry for them, after a fashion. The saying 'There but for the grace of God goes I' comes to mind. OTOH, feeling sorry for them and for their culture -- feeling pity, that is -- does not mean that they must not be made to pay. We must have justice and just punishment -- including war, if necessary.

But we will accomplish nothing good if we go off half-cocked and filled with unreasoning rage and a thirst for revenge. We must not lower ourselves to the level of our adversary. If we do, we only weaken ourselves and make things worse.

Tuor

I agree with most of your arguments. Going off half-cocked and filled with unreasoning rage never entered my mind. And, yes, justice must be pursued.

I understand quite well that he can attack us as forceably as he likes and that he is powerless against God.

However, the little glitch here is that God, for some reason which we may never understand, will allow satan to attack us, to the very limits of our endurance, which can't be described accurately as only 'temptation.' Of course, God will not allow us to be completely defeated, but 'tempted' is not strong enough to describe the extent to which satan is sometimes allowed by God to attempt to defeat us.

Satan hates us.

Of course, we shouldn't dwell on him or fear him, but we would be fooling ourselves to think that he can cause us no real problems- only 'temptation.'

And we must remember that God never allows us to be burdened with more than we can handle, with His help.

I live in the DC area, and have friends working for the Media. Fred Barnes is known to be an evangelical Christian, as is Terry Eastland (a sometime commentator), and of course Cal Thomas. Bob Novak recently became a committed Roman Catholic.

The reality of evil to those who closely follow world and national news should not be surprising... More importantly there are real Christians spread like salt everywhere...

Yea! Some holy water on the airliners should do the trick! Other than that, I see absolutely no practical matter that would be addressed with the 'knowlege' that 'satan did it'.

Excuse my aversion to religion of late, I am very, very angry. My nation has turned into a bunch of chanting pod-people.

Its really amazing to watch, I will never see humanity the same way again, nor probably rejoin it.

I have made a mp3 of the homily by Fr. Franklyn Martin McAffee. It is only 2.2 MB, and sounds excellent. I will gladly e-mail this mp3 to someone who is able to put it on a webpage so people can download it.

I saw his discussion with Tony Snow this afternoon. He seemed so moved by the priest's homily. They showed a clip of the sermon and I am frankly surprised that the priest said what he did. We Americans have become so sophisticated we have begun to deny an 'author of evil', but to our everlasting horror we saw his face this week. I hope we never forget again!

First of all, let me make myself perfectly clear: I never said that 'satan did it.'

Those hijackers did it. However, the capability to hate innocent people so much is beyond mere human capacity.

Secondly, it is your right to have an aversion to religion at this time. We all react to things differently. However, if we can lean on God, who is Love, instead of turning against Him, it will give us strength better to deal with this terrible act of hate than to try to handle it alone.

Thirdly, you are part of humanity. You don't really have a choice. Each time one of us decides to leave, we are all diminished. There is strength in unity. Hope you decide to come back.

Fourthly, a little holy water on the airliners probably wouldn't help, but, maybe we could sprinkle passengers as they board and detain the ones who hiss.

What was your view of humanity before? This has reaffirmed everything I thought about humanity. I had feared we had become a nation of Eloi.

What was your view of humanity before?

Put it this way, sometimes when I'm writing a post people are going to disagree with -- I can 'hear' angry ape-like grunts and monkey screams.

This event has not really changed things for the better, I see puppets, wizards and prophets, shrouded minds, amulets and incantations. Blood sacrifice as an answer to evil.

From The Oklahoma City Bombing and the Politics of Terror chapter 15 - Let them eat O.J.

McVeigh is sentenced to death. We are all saved.

Anyone who believes this is brain dead and deserves the consequences. Lies beget new lies. Crimes beget new crimes. Murder begets new murder. Nothing has changed in people's thinking in five thousand years. If there is a blood sacrifice for the gods, all is well. The rule of ritual blood sacrifice is supplanting the rule of law, due process and constitutional rights under the rubric of "victims' rights." The regression to social barbarism is matched by individual regression to infantile magical thinking and The Lord of the Flies is the ultimate destination

1353. (979) Ace R. Hayes, "Sacrificial Goat," Portland Free Press, July/October, 1997

Everyone should read this book NOW.
