pubmom, I live in a small town in Maryland and the same kind of patriotism is everywhere around here, I went to give blood on Wednesday and three of my nieghbors were there and this was 20 miles away from home. As I drove home tonight on 270 N. there was a group of people on top of a bridge waving flags and banners. This is a terrible time and yet a wonderful time.
There is one thing that sets the poeple of our Nation apart from many others, and that is: The best in the American people is brought to surface in the worst of times.
God Bless

I agree with you about today's patriotism...actually, this WEEK'S patriotism. I can't believe that that one email, started by someone made it all around this country and there's people standing outside with their flags, candles, horns honking...incredible.
I need to say something though about all of our attitudes (me included). I teach in a retail store and people's attitudes are getting really crummy. There were women in there MAD because American flags weren't being sold. Stuff like that. We need to keep things in perspective. I worry that we have the resolve to see this through to the end if we're all getting testy over little stuff.
Rintense, THANK YOU!!!!!! Does anyone hapen to have ALL of what the President said today in New York that made the firefighters start their chanting? I heard it on the radio, Rintense posted part of it at the beginning of the thread, but it was so moving that I'd love to be able to save that one, too.

Hi all-
Just wanted to let you know I heard from DaughterofEve today.
She is fine. Her husband was one of the many eyewitnesses to the second plane hitting, as were several of her friends as they were approaching the city. Many are not doing well from that alone. She sends her best to all the other bush babes and bucks, and could use your prayers and support.

I hope I have this right.

To: rintense, ALL
I am overwhelmed by this week's events ..... this week's images .... the horror ..... the shock .... the grief ...... the pain ..... the anguish ..... the outrage and anger .....the heroism .... the valient, tireless efforts of the rescuers .... so much more .......
But tonight another quote has come to my mind ..... by another man we all admire and respect so much .....
Ladies and Gentlemen ......
THE WHEEL HAS TURNED.
IT IS TIME ..... IT IS TIME FOR THEM TO GO!!!
And through the grace of God, we have the right man at the helm to show them the way out. America has become united again and we will defeat this enemy!!!!!!!
God bless President Bush! God bless America!

Today's speech at the Cathedral was the most moving presidential address since Reagan's when the rocket carrying astronauts blew up, or maybe since the Gettysburg address. I, too, notice parallels, more than a few, to this president and Abraham Lincoln. Not just for the causes they inherited that threaten to rive the Union, but for their placement in office by the hand of God for such as time as they found themselves there, and their responses to the challenges. I can't help but wonder how much help God was waiting to give to other presidents who would not take the time to seek Him, or ask for the faith to believe in Him.

This photo moves me deeply, each man tending to, reaching out to, the other. W seems to be filled with a healing balm that draws him to the hurting, and that is then poured out to help them. Wonder what the words were.
I think it was Dan Rather who said, after W went to the WTC, that this was Gore country, the workers were chanting "Schumer, Schumer, Schumer," and < gag alert > "Hillary" (etc.), without doing the same for Bush. But once he got down into the wreckage and began to speak with them, the reporter said there was an electric response and he said you could FEEL the change that came over the people, the way the president connected with them. Reporter said W had completely won them over by the time he left. (And he wasn't there all that long.)
