Jerry Falwell's response to today's Media Accusations

STATEMENT BY JERRY FALWELL ON 700 CLUB COMMENTS

Senior Pastor, Thomas Road Baptist Church and Chancellor, Liberty University Lynchburg, Virginia

September 14, 2001

Despite the impression some may have from news reports today, I hold no one other than the terrorists and the people and nations who have enabled and harbored them responsible for Tuesday's attacks on this nation.

I sincerely regret that comments I made during a long theological discussion on a Christian television program yesterday were taken out of their context and reported, and that my thoughts--reduced to sound bites--have detracted from the spirit of this day of mourning.

Today, I join millions of people throughout this nation and around the world in remembering all those who died, and praying for our nation, the victims of this travesty, and their loved ones.

All the abortion organizations (Planned Parenthood, NARAL, etc) have been sending out nastygrams about Falwell's remarks today. I've been emailing them back his remarks in context. I even emailed People for the American Way. slime

God showed us, in one hour, in broad daylight, the carnage PP & Assoc. carry out every day of the year. ANd have for several decades, now. God is merciful -- He could have showed us a month's or a week's worth of PP & Assoc. stock in trade, dismembered human beings. Instead, He allowed us to see one day's worth of that grisly trade.

He has no reason to apologize. His words riled the right people for the right reasons.

I agree and am growing weary of both Robertson and Falwell saying something..and apologizing the next day. Remember when Robertson made an argument For abortion in China? So much for having the courage of one's convictions.

I love Pat and Jerry, they know a lot of God's truth. Unfortunately, the are a little off in their interpretation of Bible Prophecy. Lahaye, Missler, CJF, pre-trib rapture folkes are more in line. The key to interpretation is Israel.

It's easy to see whose camp you're throwing in with - Falwell, Robertson
and Bin Laden, rather than Americans. Nice.

I heard their comments, and they said straight-out that the ACLU should take their share of blame, along with gays, feminists and pagans. A set of bizarre remarks, but I guess if you live in that particular delusion, this stuff makes sense, along with Tinky Winky coming on to you.

I'd love to buy these freaks two tickets to Afghanistan, where the nasty ACLU hasn't removed God from government.

I just heard Phil Hendrie half seriously suggest ...

If you take ANYTHING Phil Hendrie says even half seriously then you need to wake up. His whole show is a joke and an act. There is nothing on his show that is real.

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints I watched via satellite the prayer and remembrance service conducted by leaders of my faith yesterday at the same time the national service was held.

Our leaders, who we "Mormons" consider to be modern-day prophets, also spoke of the need for this nation to return to God. But there was NO mention of this being the "hand of God" striking the "evil" country. Nor did anyone mention "evil Islam."

Instead, there was simply talk of condemnation of the acts of EVIL MEN, period. Those who did this are to blame.

In this country we HAVE strayed far from the path of righteousness as a whole, but there are STILL many, many good people, godly people, to be found in our midst.

Remember that when God had decided to destroy the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, He "allowed" Abraham to plead that if just a FEW good souls could be found in those cities they would be spared.

The problem was that NONE could be found save Lot and his family, and they were asked to leave.

No, we've gotten far off track to be sure, but there are FAR too many good people in this country to count it out yet. And perhaps one positive from this whole mess is that many will now be inspired to return to God.

It would have been great if Falwell and Robertson could have taken the high road in this regard, but I long ago stopped expecting that of them. They have their scripts, rife with their iron-bound prejudices, and they're not going to budge from them.

So by your logic, then, the Christians who were killed by the Romans for sport must have actually been "bad people."

Have I got that right?
