does for me that's for sure. What's that quote by ben franklin? "He who gives up a little liberty for a little safety deserves neither liberty nor safety" or something along those lines. Not sure whether Franklin said "deserves" or something like "achieves". How about:
"No person surrenders his liberty execpt under some delusion." Edmund Burke

It's been just about three days so far. I know they need time to lay out attack targets and plans, but I hope to hell that Bush shoves a cruise missile or two up somebody's ass in the next 24 hours, just as a calling card. He could then go on TV to announce something like "That was just us clearing our throats, assholes. Just getting warmed up over here, so stand by."
Then Bush could go on to say, "We'd bomb you're sorry butts back to the Stone Age except that's where your absolutely clever, rational, creative minds already have you."

I'm with you Dan. My greatest fear is that Bush, like his father, won't have the balls to finish the job. This is one thing that doesn't have me worried. No matter what he might say publically, I'll bet, privately, the old man regrets leaving Saddam in power hoping the Iraqi's would finish things. The one thing he probably told W at the inauguration was, "Son, if you're ever in the position I was, finish the job."

Now that should scare the pa-jebbers out of any good freeper. Why? 24 percent said they would not. That actually sounds pretty high to me. Betcha a freeper poll wouldn't even hit double digits.

That's what the second amendment is for. Saw a report last night that gun sales are up. It's a most comforting feeling that, as Americans, we don't have to passivly accept the threats of bullies but can defend ourselves. Even the Japs didn't want to tangle with mainland America after Pearl Harbor because of the armed citizenry. Then again, they were rational. Stupid, but rational.

You must be feeling it too. Things sure are different around here.

It seems that, a lot of those who pass for conservatives on FR these days , are just liberals in drag. Present company excepted, of course.
Political correctness is a great danger to our liberty.

You liberal friend's response is interesting. The daughter of a woman my wife used to work with is an assitant to "a rather well-known Southern Senator who used to be a Governor" and she called her Mom to admit "she was glad Bush was President when this happened...."

Political correctness is a great danger to our liberty. If it was not for the prevailing PC mindset that has gripped our nation's government leadership and institutions for the last eight years, the horrific atrocities of this last Tuesday might not have occurred. That is what is so frustrating and angering about it all. It could have been prevented. What a needless loss of life!

In England in May 1940, there were still some in the elite who favored appeasement, but the public was already dug in for war. I think we're seeing the same thing in the U.S. right now.
I went to a service at my synagogue on Wednesday night, and the knee-jerk liberals had come up with their usual idea of a program. They had arranged for 6 therapists to meet with us in small groups.
When it came time for the therapy sessions, the social workers were left standing by themselves while everyone brushed past them to go out into the hall to talk about bombing.
The country is awake, and it likes what Bush is doing. The media are playing catch-up. Although Ted Koppel doesn't know it yet, the therapeutic culture vanished along with the WTC.
On the issue of security vs. rights, polls rarely show public support for civil liberties. We need Constitutional government rather than direct democracy in order to protect individual rights from mob hysteria.
In an essay I called Remembering Pearl Harbor I wrote that I thought that in the long run we will preserve our liberties. We will make our worst mistakes in the immediate aftermath, but eventually we will gain wisdom and experience.

I'm waiting for the following poll question to be asked. Sir with President Clinton we had a President who could cry at a moments notice; whose lip would visibly quiver; a man who was obviously in tune with the American people, my question Sir is "Does Bush have these abilities to lead the American people"?

I respect Bush again for the way he handled this. I don't think we should be paying attn. to polls, but it's nice to know that most Americans support him. I lost faith after stem cells.. but I like him again.

Article: The CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll also found that 66 percent would be "willing to surrender some of the civil liberties guaranteed Americans in order for the government to crack down on terrorism," while 24 percent said they would not and 10 percent had no opinion. Aric 2000: Now what the heck made them ask this question, and this scares me to death. 2/3 of the US population obviously does not have a clue what their rights are. Or have no clue that when you give them up, you NEVER get them back.
Please keep in mind that probably half of the population views curb-side check-in at the airport as a civil right.
Now, I do believe that 2/3 of the population is willing to forgo some conveniences...myself included.

>> "they [Republicans] don't care who the hell they bomb!"
Maybe on our way back we can hit the liberal camps in New England.

Peterless Jennings must be pounding the table asking what he did wrong.....how could these polls be after all his hard work to tear down our beloved President and our beloved America.

This is Dubya's equivalent to his father's 90+ approval ratings following the Gulf War. We'll see if he can leverage it any more effectively than Poppy did.

The 8% who disapproved were probably all mainstream America "journalists" or men and women who call themselves journalists! Do ya see this poll Rather, Jennings, Brokaw, Dowd, and 98% of you others?! America loves President Bush!
