Shippers claims that he contacted the Justice Dept weeks agon with warnings that a large terrorist strike involving southern Manhattan was imimnent. He was ignored

How would he know? Isn't he an attorney and former prosecutor?

This smells fishy.

Despite my zeal at having a fairly conservative republican elected, government is still a gaint super-tanker of a tool, too large to manuevor, to costly, too grasping, to invasive and too set in its ways. There will be plenty of blame and woulda-coulda-shoulda to go around. Bush will get his share and will no doubt deserve some of it.

Essentially, Shippers is stating that when all is said and done the American public will find that the authorities had lots of information on a potential strike yet did nothing...and that the quick arrests are because of this fact...and the brave actions of flight attendants who phoned in the seat numbers of the terrorists before they were killed. I think this information needs to be heard and discussed...and have been urging national news shows to interview Shippers ASAP.

This is sounding more and more like Pearl Harbor...could the government have allowed this to happen so that our rights might be restricted and /or that we could go into the mid east?

does this mean that arrests would not have occurred quickly had authorities not known so much? recent membership here, and this statement cloud your credibility.

Interesting stuff but there isn't enough that's concrete. First off, telling the FBI an attack is "imminent" means nothing. What kind of attack, who will be involved, where are they right now? That's the information that's needed. Even when tips go all the way down to the personal level they need something to go on. One of the scariest things about this one is that, other than the conspiracy, until they actually took the planes over they didn't do anything illegal. We need to hae something to arrest people for.

We need some serious reviews of how we process intelligence of all kinds in this country, we need to get more pro-active, follow up more leads. But we can't let "terrorist" replace "child abuse" as an all purpose accusation to throw at people to ruin their lives. We have a very delicate balance that must be maintained. Remember, the Bill of Rights was constructed to ALLOW the people to overthrow the government; we have to figure out where the line between what the founders wanted us to be able to do, and what these scumbags are doing is, and never cross it.

I would hope he was ignored -- he has no credentials for being in that loop.

FYI--could this be related to the raid on InfoCom in Texas and the OKC bombing?

Remember the FBI raid on the Arab owned and operated Internet hosting firm in Texas a few weeks back? Was there ever a followup to what that was all about? Secret warrants and stuff. Possible connections to terrorists, etc. I recall this every time people suggest that we were sitting around doing nothing. Perhaps we were working on it, but simply failed to succeed in preventing what we knew was coming. Most likely, multiple plans were in place. For all we know, several possible terrorist attacks were already prevented and this one just happened to slip through. There are so many arm chair generals running around. None of us have any idea how big the war really is and if Tuesday's attack was simply a "stray bomb" that happened to slip through.

I've been thinking that the FBI was hot on their trail because of the recent raid in Richardson, Tx last week (FBI RAIDS DALLAS AREA ARAB INTERNET OFFICE ) and perhaps the terrorists "upped" the date because they were about to get caught. That theory would explain why we're hearing reports of more "pilots" out there on the loose.

Maybe Shippers wasn't "ignored;" maybe the FBI was afraid of leaks.

David Schippers is the lowest form of life. He knew what was going on. All he said, in front of a fireplace wearing a turtle neck sweater, is that Juanita Broaddrick better be prepared for what "they" were going to do to her.

Schippers waited to say anything more until shortly before the 2000 elections when his book came out and was used to bash the GOP.

But nevermind..some idiots still think there are Democrats out there who are honest and decent people.

Some conservatives will never get it.

Schippers is an @sshole, as I've said many times on this site. The guy who was such an honest and dedicated public servant that he voted for Bill Clinton TWICE wants us all to believe that he was privy to some inside information about a terrorist attack in lower Manhattan.

If you were so concerned about it, Monday-morning QB @sshole, why didn't you tell anyone else?

I really can't stand him now because I just lost a bet that I thought I'd won. I wagered that once his book was no longer a bestseller he would never be heard from again.

U.S. intelligence received no specific warning, the state of alert had been high during the past two weeks, and a particularly urgent warning may have been received the night before the attacks, causing some top Pentagon brass to cancel a trip. Why that same information was not available to the 266 people who died aboard the four hijacked commercial aircraft
