Bush not asking for Declaration of War
President George W. Bush
Posted on 09/12/2001 8:04:51 AM PDT by Heisenburger
We all just saw Bush on TV talking about investigating this tragedy and generally pussy-footing around the issue. What Bush is forgetting is that we are sure of who has done this, and there is no reason anymore for investigations. If Bush will not ask Congress for a Declaration of War against Afghanistan, I say Congress should force his hand by passing such a declaration immediately.

You are right on target.

He is taking the steps to prepare us for a long, brutal, but decisive fight. Jesus! "I hope it's not a long brutal decisive fight".
I pray that it is short and sweet and to the point with all concerned taken care of.
And no doubts about who is responsible!!

What was sick or untrue about my statement. We have had religious groups preaching the end of the world and we are all gonna go to heaven or hell or some such nonsense on FR for months. Islam the great Stan etc. Gimmeee a break and keep your bigoted remarks for others.

A Declaration of War presupposes that we are fighting a nation, in the ordinary sense, with a discernible geographic limit and a significant civilian population. A Declaration of War also presupposes that our enemy consists of soldiers more or less trained to observe certain humanitarian rules, and that we will also observe humantarian rules ourselves. We don't consider such niceties when we are determined to stomp out swarms of rats!

If we don't want to have regard for borders, how about having Congress issue some letters of marque (permission to cross/ignore enemy borders) and reprisal (take what you want)? =)

Of course they have, in deed. -- Lets hope they declare themselves in name, so we don't have to guess.
Do you want a WWIII? -- Do you think someone would 'win' a nuclear war?

Gingrich has been singularly terrific. The media act as though this was a local bank robbery, nothing more. They don't get it. We are at war. Declaration of war imminent within days. Bush-Cheney ain't gonna play and my guess is that tactical nuclear weapons will be deployed from subs and aircraft carriers.

These are not Pirates prowling the watres off the coast of N. Africa. They live in cells in cities around the world, they follow leaders that promise eternal paradise for deeds of terror. You cannot kill the snake by cutting off its tail - you must cut off its head.
Declarations might make people feel better but action is neaded - however, the Letter of Marque idea has merit.

No warnings. If the evidence points to Bin Laden, then nuke Kabul and every Taliban held city in Afghanistan. If Iraqi support to this attack is shown (or it's known that they supported the previous attacks on the towers), then nuke Baghdad and every major city in Iraq. Our cry should be no quarter.

If they set off a tactical nuke, then we carpet bomb all Arabs with REAL NUKESGlad to see that you are a patient fella who has remarkable restraint... (sarcasm)
The model is Israel after 1972 Munich Olympic incident. They got them all. The terrorists, the money people, the brain-trust. Without fanfare, histrionics, and without war.
You want a show...an act of bravado. And I notice that you are real cavalier, not only with your life... but with your neighbor's life as well.
All Arabs are not to blame. All Arabs are not our enemies. All Arabs are not to be carpet-bombed....
Sometimes it is prudent to be patient.

One of the first rules of successful shooting is to identify your target. Bush is doing just that.
He made it perfectly clear that not only the individuals who were directly responsible would be held to account, but also those who aided and abetted them.
Right now we should just sit tight, support the President and see how things fall out. We could also contact all our congresspeople and tell them to provide Israel with all the tanks, guns, ammo, planes, rockets, etc, they want to wipe the grins off the faces of those sub-human Palestinians. I used to sympathysize with those people - but never again. They attacked us and they are now the enemy. All the injustices they may or may not have received are now totally irrelevant to this American, thanks to Mr. Ben Laddin.

I am a fairly liberal late 20th century guy. I have been taught tolerance all my life. We have been tolerant. Since I was a kid I have heard these ISLAMIC cultures spout hatred for us. We tried to understand. We tried to Listen. We fostered peace so their views could be aired. The palestinians, for crying out loud, got LAND and a state. In the last twenty years the children of these cultures have been raised to HATE us. There are enough of them that hate so much that they would do this. These cultures are in their very existance now proven beyond doubt that they are an evil deviant religious culture that is bent on the destruction of our civilization by lying murderous means. An act of war has been committed against our nation. I strongly support a declaration of WAR against the states of Palestine, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan. These peoples have proven themselves to be evil & monstrous supporters of the kinds of cultures which foster the perpetrators of the WTC bombing. I want the US government to declare war on these countries so that we can topple these governments and persecute ALL religious fanatics until they are dead. Their very culture is evil and must be destroyed. We have had it with appeasement, and if we hear the Gov't spouting tolerance and "justice" we will know they are not worthy of our support in this "civilization". Sometimes good men must do bad things to stop evil. We want retribution so forceful that these elements of hatred against us have no children to teach hate to any more. They must be wiped out. I can think of no better reason for the use of tactical nuclear weapons than the obliteration of key cities in these states. The world will have to live with it's complicity with these bastards and have to live with the retribution that they called down on themselves. Religion is an evil thing. Judgement will be for God. ;-(

If it is short and sweet, it won't be decisive or final.
To: Heisenburger
I've e-mailed my congressman asking for a declaration of war, and for swift attacks, with all force, against the Taliban and the regime in Iraq. We already know for sure they are our enemies. They will not be impressed by days of U.S. investigations and fact-finding. It is prudent to assume that more attacks against the U.S. are already planned and staged, and they will be delivered by different means. This was worse than Pearl Harbor, and calls for a fierce and disproportionate counter-attack.

It seems to me that any civilians that are "dancing in the street" over this tragedy are our enemies as well... And that includes those in America.
