My apologies to the innocent victims of today's cowardly attack on our free republic, but I believe there are some questions we need to be asking ourselves right now---
When the smoke clears, and retribution is exacted, will the United States of America ever be the same?
Or will this be the perfect cover for those who would destroy what remains of our personal freedom as Americans?
Out of of fear, will the sheeple cry for even more restraints on our liberty than have already been exacted, and welcome tyranny with open arms?
I believe these are all very important questions to begin to consider on this Black Tuesday.
I hope and pray that in the days ahead, Free Republic will be a center of opposition to that move against the Bill of Rights which is almost surely to come.
Give me Liberty or give me death!!!!!
Folks, we don't know for a fact who did this. And if one can envision any one group willing to do something this vile to make a point, one must accept the possability of ANOTHER group willing to do something this vile to make the first group look bad or as a justification to declare martial law.
And let us not forget that the prior histor of the Unitd States is to get out of financial trouble by getting into wars.
None of us knows who did this. Be careful of those who insist they should decide for you.
Well, I guess that answers Eternal Vigilance's question.
What's a "little liberty" over safety, eh, cringer?
Liberty is what these people died for. Think!
I can't believe you even think that. You are a JBT arn't you. You should be happy about all this. I'm sure you'll be a very busy and happy man as you help transform American from a Free Republic to a gulag police state.
BTW What's wrong with finding out who did this and punishing THEM? Shreading the Constitution won't bring the dead back to life.
Jesus, the ash hasn't even settled yet and people who are SAFE and NOT HERE are worried about how it's going to affect THEIR freedom of movement. It just doesn't sit well, I tell you.
I guess the strict prohibition against weapons on commercial flights has proved to be the same horsepoop as the insane gun laws in the big cities - a total lie, and totally useless.
Time to go to Israeli carry codes.
Brokaw was calling for government censorship of the Internet over one year ago, under the pretext of shutting down neo-Nazi groups. I think he was more concerned with organizations like FR, which have for years shown up him and his fellow anchors as propagandists. He has always been freedom's ardent foe.
Everyone involved should have a chance to grieve, and we should be shoulder-to-shoulder with them. My brother has (or had?) about 20 friends and acquaintances who worked in the WTC complex. He believes them all to be dead. He is shattered like I've never heard him before - more so even than when a family member died. He saw the 2nd plane hit.
Again, everyone should grieve, or help another grieve. But we can't forget who we, as a nation, are. This nation has literally lost hundreds of thousands of dead to maintain its freedom. Indeed, we lost about 1% of our population (equivalent to 2.8 million today) in order to secure our freedom. It would monumentally compound this tragedy to allow everything that these people fought and died for to vanish in a moment of panic or fear.
Today is for grieving, tomorrow for action. Never for permanent reductions in our liberties.
Dennisw - please see my #29. There are many things to be concerned about. Yes, the people who were killed and injured, and their families, are first. Give blood and pray for them. But we cannot let the Ba$tard$ who did this accomplish their goals, by passing rash and harsh laws in the heat of the moment.
