My apologies to the innocent victims of today's cowardly attack on our free republic, but I believe there are some questions we need to be asking ourselves right now---
When the smoke clears, and retribution is exacted, will the United States of America ever be the same?
Or will this be the perfect cover for those who would destroy what remains of our personal freedom as Americans?
Out of of fear, will the sheeple cry for even more restraints on our liberty than have already been exacted, and welcome tyranny with open arms?
I believe these are all very important questions to begin to consider on this Black Tuesday.
I hope and pray that in the days ahead, Free Republic will be a center of opposition to that move against the Bill of Rights which is almost surely to come.
Those innocent victims did no die for our liberty. If this had been a strike against our Military, then yes, that statement would be true, but these were innocent civilians at work, or just enjoying themselves. They had no idea what would happen today. In the Military, you are expected to lay down your life in the defense of this country, but not as a civilian.
That is correct...and I never said they did. Neither did they die because anyone wanted "a little liberty".
He claimed to be with the Border Patrol / INS, if I'm not mistaken.
"...and Yep....I'm sure he as a pair of Jackboots"
At least two pairs, based on his comment on this thread.
Yes, they are important casualties. And the only thing that any of us can do for them is donate blood. There are people working on getting them out. If *we* try to enter Manhattan to help, we are subject to arrest.
The next most important thing that we can do is make sure that our liberty survives this attack because just as there are those working to free the victims at the WTC, there are anti-freedom congresscritters and others that will want us to surrender our liberty for some false hope of limited security. When would the best time be for them to do their dirty work? I would suggest that it is while everyone is stunned and grieving and looking for 'answers' and 'help'.
It was Woody Wilson's intervention that made the allied victory possible and THAT led to Hitler. Even Churchill noted this, not long after WWII. You could ALSO make the case that the instability of WWI in Russia led to the 1917 Revolution and the takeover by the Reds after it.
You'd be well advised to actually STUDY history before you regurgitate your public school pap.

You can criticize the democrats all you want; at this moment in time everyone willing to kill the enemy (as soon as we know exactly who 'they' are)should have access to serious weaponery. First thing I learned from the democrats was to buy my weaponery while it was still reasonably cheap. I already knew that for the most part, they didn't have a clue to reality.
So that is my two bits for the call to "stand together". I will even teach them how to use my weaponery if need be to guard against whatever may come if things turn ugly....
I've yet to see anyone here make a reasonable arguement about which *liberties* would be impacted and why. And don't even bother whining about tighter restrictions at airports and aboard aircraft...you don't have any liberties there, anyway.
Why can't you folks let it go for a couple days? Let's concentrate on the victims, the survivors, and our response as a Nation.
Neither. Are you stupid, or is it just that you can't read?
These are the questions I asked in that post:
Maybe in the heat of the moment you folks are unable to elucidate exactly what you are afraid will happen, but I have to ask you -- what is it you think are "the goals" that "they" [the terrorists] wish to accomplish? It seems you think their goal is to cause martial law to be inacted in the USA. Help me with that concept -- how will that serve them?
Your "answer" to that question was:
If it doesn't "serve" them, then why are they doing it?
In other words, you don't really have an answer.
The only good that could have come out of yesterdays events would have been to have a national re-examination of this country's interference into the affairs of just about every other country on the planet, but in reality we all know that the result will be more restrictions on the few remaining freedoms we have left and more interference in the affairs of other nations.
That being said, lets vaporize a few million rag-heads today and worry about the Constitution tomorrow.
None of us knows who did this. Be careful of those who insist they should decide for you.

You lowdown dog--DON'T YOU DARE LAY THIS AT THE FEET OF MY COUNTRY.
And it is high time you stop your inane and meaningless mantra.
You're a very sick man
Thanks for the clarification. I'd hate to hate you, without having met you first. Try not to get prejudiced by the terrorism. SUSPECT EVERYONE, not just the melanin enhanced.
Just like the others who, perceived what I said to mean that we should give up our liberties for safety. I never said that or met that, but my poorly written statement made people believe that was the way I was thinking. And for that I apologized.
What I was angry at, was the fact that the conspiracy theorist on this forum, were more worried about Uncle Sam coming in the black helicopters to take away more of their rights, than they were for the victims of the tragic incident.
Simple enough. They attacked our way of life, what we are, not merely a few buildings and those inside of them. If you (as a terrorist) can cause the USA, the shining light of liberty since 1776, to impose martial law or a severe set of restrictions on the freedom of its populace, then you will have more effectively destroyed America than if you had destroyed several cities with nukes. America is not just its people or its material assets - we are an idea, the idea of freedom and liberty. Martial law or similar restrictions will destroy that idea.
No, I'm just angry at people like you, who take your dislike law enforcement officers, and lump ever law enforcement officer into that group. Just like a racist.
Not everyone working in law enforcement is a JBT, which, by your posting, is what you believe. That would be like saying everyone in California is gay. It is an incorrect statement and makes the writer look biased. Believe it or not, not everyone in law enforcement is a JBT.
The only people to blame for this, are Bin Laden, the Taliban, and the lack of funding our government spends on Intelligence.
The people who did this are well trained and have been in the US for sometime.
I would not be surprised that some of the co-conspirators are either Resident Aliens or US citizens.
I don't blame the average Muslim or Palestinian, but I do blame those Palestinians that threw a celebration once word hit the streets of Palestine.
