A Texas mystery: Talarico got more votes than Hillary, Biden, and Kamala UPDATED
American Thinker ^ | Nov 5 2026 | Andrea Widburg

Considering that presidential elections usually have higher turnouts, and all three elections were remarkably heated, Talarico’s extraordinary popularity is...interesting.

One thing I’ve warned about over the years is that Texas, which proudly positioned itself as the new Silicon Valley, was bringing in a lot of college-educated young people. In the 1950s, that would have been nice. In the 21st century, that meant bringing in leftists. It’s easy to assume, then, that these new immigrants handed James Talarico his new Senate seat.

However, population growth alone doesn’t fully explain what happened in Texas on Tuesday. I have no settled explanation for Talarico’s win. It’s just...well, odd, so I thought I’d share that oddity with you.

Talarico’s win was remarkable not only because a Democrat shattered Texas’s red wall for the first time since 1988, but also because of the sheer number of votes he received. His vote total exceeded the Texas totals of every Democrat presidential nominee since 2016, including Joe Biden, who previously held the record. Talarico also outperformed Colin Allred, the Democrat who challenged Ted Cruz for the Senate in 2024.

According to Decision Desk HQ, the latest reported figures as of this morning show Talarico receiving 5,445,185 votes. Compared to previous Democratic presidential candidates, he got 40.4% more votes than Hillary in 2016, 12.6% more than Kamala in 2024, and 3.5% more than Biden did in 2020, a year of record turnout.

The logical thing to do, of course, is to assign that vast difference to Texas’s rapidly growing population. After all, the more people who live in a state, the more potential voters it has—and, as noted, Texas has gone out of its way to attract people who probably lean left.

According to Census Bureau population estimates, Texas’s population increased from approximately 27.9 million in 2016 to 29.2 million in 2020 and 31.3 million in 2024. That represents approximately 12.2% growth over eight years. By July 2025, the total population had reached approximately 31.7 million. Those are big changes.

Population growth therefore helps explain why more people might vote for Democrats compared to a decade ago. But here’s the kicker: Population growth alone doesn’t fully explain Talarico’s remarkable performance.

First, the 12.2% population increase occurred between 2016 and 2024. You can’t logically use that entire eight-year increase to explain Talarico’s 12.6% advantage over Harris, who ran just two years earlier because much of that population growth had already occurred before Harris appeared on the ballot.

Second, it wasn’t just leftists who moved in. We all know conservative businesses and individuals who abandoned California, New York, Illinois, and other economically hostile Democrat-run states for Texas. They’d add to the Republican vote total.

People are stating to wake up those damn machines. I get nothing but bad vibes when I step up to scan my ballot with the ‘mystery machine.’ If the wizards who want to control our lives and future wanted to rig an electoral voting system, they couldn’t devise a more deceptive, sinister way of doing it. I know the answer but I have to ask it anyway - Why to the Dems love to cheat and lie all the time? It’s clear they gain immense pleasure in doing so. Look at all that celebratory dancing that occurred on the night of the 3.

In a race where the turnout is well down, but the winning candidate has a vast percentage increase in vote numbers and that candidate is basically anethma in every aspect, to the vast majority of voters...the result stinks.

I read somewhere this week to the effect that many areas that went Democrat federally, the Republicans won at the state level. That is somewhat odd in it’s way as well.

It wasn’t just CA leftists moving into the state, there was a massive Muslim and Indian influx. And Republicans were complacent (and bragging about GDP) while democrats organized and got out the vote.

They cheated in the cities and created votes. It is beginning to look like the entire process us a scam. There is no way Talarico won with that many votes. With his advocacy for perversion here in Texas, that’s impossible.

Certainly there were small pockets of fraud but not enough to swing a national election, the current DOJ is actively investigating this forgery and the higher-up dems know this. Notice there was no serious investigation of Xiden’s autopen, Thune’s dictatorial behavior, etc. as the list is long.

We have a completely dead political party that needs to be killed off for good, much like the mythological flight of phoenix legend.

Not sure why this is surprising. Paxton also got over 2 million votes less than Trump did in 2024. Talarico was still more than a million votes fewer than Trump in 2024.

People shifted and voted away from the GOP. It wasn’t just democrats that voted for Talarico. Some population groups also shifted heavily back to the Dems.

Dems got out their vote. Republicans either didn’t or people who voted GOP in 2024 changed how they vote.

Drag out the usual scapegoats: Californians, Yankees, techies, Asians, Hispanics, blacks, Millenials, Gen Z, AWFLs, etc. The Republicans lost all statewide offices. Moderate Republicans who supported Cornyn stayed away from Paxton so he lost by 1.2 million votes. They likely voted for Abbott and the down ballot candidates, but the alt-right types, who were antiwar and disappointed at the Trump Administration, stayed away as well. Abbott and the rest lost by 400.to 500 thousand votes. The loss was not due to the non-native born, non-white Protestant Texans, but the weak GOP turnout.

I don't think this is a huge mystery.

1. It was a hotly contested race, unlike previous presidential elections.

2. Talarico got a lot of votes from REPUBLICANS.

Exactly.

There was a talking head that claimed Texas was 87% white in 1970 but is currently 37% white.

That will have an impact going forward, especially considering that the younger white, educated population means Liberal anyways.

Sad.

It's the same in many states.
"Moderate" Susan Collins survived in Democratic Maine for decades through ticket splitting -- that stopped in 2026 and Collins is out.
In the House PA-1 Fitzpatrick is another "moderate" Republican reelected for years by ticket-splitting Democrats -- that stopped in 2026.

It wasn't so much conservatives who stayed home (though some did), rather it was independents & moderate Democrats who found candidates they could support in opposition to Pres. Trump.

Total voter turnout looks to be:

So, 2026 was down 33 million voters from 2024, but up 12 million from the previous midterm, 2022.

If you want to protect your conservative culture, the best thing you can do is move to a place where the homes are still on wells and septic systems.

The single most important factor in the growth of leftist politics anywhere is urbanization. It attracts not only radical leftist white people and predictably liberal black Americans, but also every imported Third World and Asian ethnic group that is incapable of dealing with simple human challenges like snowstorms and blackouts.

It isn’t who votes that matter, but who (or what) counts the votes. Did we get infected by AI?

Dems got out their vote

If the dems were not cheating on a massive scale then why would they fight to the death against reasonable voter integrity laws? These are laws which all nations in the world have -- except for ours. Makes you think.

Sounds to me like trickery by the Dems is what won it for them ...where it did. Well there’s at least one state that didn’t use those miserable machines according to my knowledge & Repubs won almost exclusively. When will someone do something that makes elections work properly without the cheating. After all, isn’t there a law about elections being legal? It won’t help if only a few are using methods that work & I think if we closely look at the different states results, we can figure out why Dems won so much when they don’t have a plan that is anything but corrupt.

While most Americans are concerned about the cost of living, gas, prices, etc., Trump and many Republicans spent 90% of their time on (mythical)voter fraud and arguing about how the reflecting pool in Washington DC got damaged. Trump never gave a cogent rationale for why he attacked Iran, which clearly caused gas prices to go up by 50%, which in turn increased inflation. Trump did a lot of great things on the border and with immigration. However, his success resulted in a backlash among Hispanic females in Texas, who saw friends and loved ones deported. These people didn’t vote for Talarico, they voted against Trump. Also, many suburban Republicans have had it with Trump‘s childish antics.

Oil is the financial lifeblood of Texas.

Democrats hate oil.

Texans should hate Democrats.
