A longtime Harvard Law professor and liberal lawyer believes the FBI raid on Rep. Ilhan Omar’s (D-Minn.) home has landed her in serious legal jeopardy, and he predicts she will very likely lose her citizenship and face deportation to Somalia, the country of her birth.
That lawyer is Alan Dershowitz, and he made his prediction on Newsmax’s The Record with Greta Van Susteren.
The whole case hinges on whether Omar became a U.S. citizen, and if so, how. She claims she became a citizen as a minor when her father was naturalized. The problem is that nobody has produced the paperwork to back that up, and Van Susteren zeroed in on that gap.
"Assuming that that paperwork is never found, what happens? And what does Congress do about her?" Van Susteren asked.
Dershowitz walked through the legal bar the government has to clear. "Well, they have to prove — to have denaturalization, you have to prove fraud," he said. That means prosecutors would need to show that Omar committed fraud herself, or that her father did with her participation.
“Now, she, when she made the statement recently, makes the strongest case for why she’s probably in deep trouble,” Dershowitz continued. “I have a lot of experience with search warrants, and usually they’re issued pretty easily, but not against a sitting congresswoman in her home in the District of Columbia. I think for this judge to have signed off on a search warrant to go to the house early in the morning to do all the things she said they did, there has to be very substantial evidence beyond just a mere probable cause claim that maybe a crime was committed. So, I think she’s in much, much deeper trouble than she is willing to admit.”

In fact, Omar herself essentially conceded she might have married her brother. During an interview on MS NOW, Chris Hayes asked Omar directly whether she had married her sibling, an allegation of fraud President Donald Trump has raised many times. She gave an answer that should have alarmed every Democrat watching.
"Not to my knowledge," Omar said.
I’m surprised that she didn’t use the Hillary the Hillabeast proven successful reply when asked about her numerous crimes, “I do not recall.”
Ilhan the Muslim creep-ess is one of the few women in the multiverse who is even more crooked, craven, and corrupt than the Hillabeast.

Her name is not Omar. It’s Emli or Emil or Elmo or Emo or LiMu or something. But it’s not Omar.
This is encouraging, and I respect Dershowitz’s opinion, but it’s in some sense a stretch to call him a “liberal lawyer.” It’s true that he still considers himself a liberal, but he left the Democrats, and in April 2026 he became a Republican.
It’s not as if some Democrat stalwart had said this about Ilhan Omar, or whatever her name is.
Yes, but his point that getting a search warrant against a sitting Congresswoman requires more than just the minimal probable cause that would be needed against your average crook is well taken.
I hope this means that the DOJ has a slam dunk case on her involvement in corruption in Minnesota. If I were a judge, given this administrations (justified) hostility to her, I would expect a lot of probable cause before I would sign off on that warrant. If nothing else but to cya and make sure the warrant didn’t get thrown out by the trial court, or on appeal.
Denaturalization is a much higher bar.

Dershowitz hasn’t been a “liberal lawyer” in decades.

It’s perhaps time to consider that with all the millions being sent back to Somalia, just how hard would it be for the congresswoman to get a fraudulent Somali birth certificate manufactured at this late date?
Dersh isn’t nearly as liberal as he used to be. No longer a member of the RAT party.
Dershowitz is a liberal as it used to be understood. The Democrats have gone left of liberal in their party identity.
Even as late as the Clinton years, Bill came out and said the era of big government was over and actually balanced the budget for a couple of years.
Dershowitz is no position of power.
He can express his opinion all he wants, but I don’t think anything will come of all this.
When was the last time a dimrat elected official was held accountable for their crimes?
James Trafficant was run out of town because he went up against the party, not because of any crime he committed.
Well, Dershowitz is just giving his opinion that the fact that a judge signed off on a search warrant means that there’s documented substance behind the accusations.
As to whether anything will happen with this, who knows? The track record looks bad, but of course that’s how it will look until it changes. (I admit that I wouldn’t put money in the prediction markets on a bet that she’ll be deported.)
I agree. And by the way, that’s why the left needs to keep TDS going. There are a lot of Democrats who feel that the party has left them. But most of these people have been so brainwashed by the “Trump is a fascist/Musk is a Nazi/Republicans are evil” demonization that they feel that they have to vote Democrat in spite of severe misgivings.
And even those whose secret ballot may end up with some R’s can’t say their views out loud because they’ll be ridiculed and shunned by brainwashed friends, family, and colleagues. So the peer pressure keeps the Democrats looking like a monolith without cracks, but that’s not their true situation.
