The man who wants to live forever isn’t entirely sure why.
“Why do I need to defend that life is good?” asks Bryan Johnson, the most recognisable face of the biohacking movement, who is dead set on denying life’s only inevitability: that it ends.
He treats ageing as a technological problem to be solved, spending $2m (£1.5m) a year turning himself into a human guinea pig in a data-fuelled quest to slow the process, with each minute of his day monitored.
In an interview with The Telegraph, the tech-bro-turned-longevity guru describes himself as a messiah-type figure who preaches that death can be mastered.
“If you go back through time, any religious figure who has tried to say this is how you understand life and death, and here’s what you do to solve life and death. I’m in that same lineage,” he says, listing Jesus, the Buddha and Mohammed.
“So it’s the first time there’s been an opening in 2000 years; a thawing of how humans think about: ‘Do I believe in an afterlife? Do I not?’” he adds.
The divorced father-of-three’s “Blueprint” protocol intends to radically slow down or reverse biological ageing with an algorithmically driven lifestyle, an effort expected to be turbocharged by the rise of AI.
He takes dozens of pills a day, abides by a strict vegan diet and painstakingly tracks his biological processes, down to monitoring his night-time erections – data he compares with his 21-year-old son’s and shares online with his millions of followers.
In his most viral experiment, Johnson received a litre of blood plasma from his then 17-year-old son, one of a series of monthly exchanges he abandoned after six months, having detected no benefit.
Many dismiss his quest as the delusion of a man with too much money and time. But Johnson...

"Nietsche is dead." -- God
*By "killing" God, Nietzsche meant that modern society no longer genuinely believes in a divine order—even if people still cling to Christian values out of habit.

His (artificially)
inflated ego is incredible.
As far as Bryan Johnson is concerned, he is his own Deity.

I don’t believe he has been grafted in.
He also seems like a total tool.

At the end of the day, human longevity and ever-lasting youth are solvable problems. Humanity will have them some day, probably well before the end of this century. But what this guy is doing is not likely to extend his life much if at all.

He is quite a fruitcake. His efforts may or may not be helpful down the road.

(I recall an interview, I think it was Walford, who said that there’s no inherent physical limit to our lifespan, and it could be enhanced by diet (he tried caloric restriction) — but then added the crazy claim that even with that approach, we’d not make it past about 600 years, because of “accidents” (hit by a bus, falling off a cliff, etc).

How does one track night time erections? I mean aren’t you asleep or half asleep? Asking for a friend.
[shown circa age 67] Roy Lee Walford, M. D. was a professor of pathology at University of California, Los Angeles School of Medicine, a leading advocate of calorie restriction for life extension and health improvement, and a crew member of Biosphere 2. This is a rare unedited interview with him during his tenure at Biosphere 2 discussing longevity research especially his caloric restriction plan. Gotta solve entropy. Gotta solve harmful genetic mutations. As our lifespans get longer, diseases that occur at older ages start to show up in greater numbers. Very few young men have prostate cancer. It is prevalent in older populations.
This explorer will find out soon that new illnesses may not be solvable.
