Second source is reporting results while saying "No results posted yet". Remains 72%. Separate 28%
The problem is...what do they do after they separate...Where do they think they are running to??
Alberta is economically self sufficient—and could easily exist as a stand alone country.
They don’t need to “run” anywhere.
Not “running” anywhere. Independence. No longer being the cash cow for ungrateful leeches. Kinda like what those guys did in 1776 but without the violence.
Yet...
They have more money and resources stolen from Ontario than they get in from other provinces. So it’s a net plus for them. Plus they wouldn’t need to fund much of a military as they are sandwiched between the USA and Canada.
We are running to become Americans. We know a good thing when we see it.
"Almost all polling stations closed in Alberta’s separation referendum, but voting continues."
Very true. The world would shocked how quickly they became a successful country once they don’t Ottawa’s foot on their neck. Alas, they lack the resolve. This was a referendum to have a referendum (how very Canadian) and they could not even get 30% to do that.
You’re assuming that you will become a USA state...Well...that ain’t gonna happen.
Where do you get your numbers?
No official results have been released yet
Absolutely correct. In reality much oil wealth of Alberta is drained to Ottawa and the central government. Economically, Alberta would be better off as an independent nation. Ottawa looks down with contempt of Alberta as does the left in the USA look down at Texas. Oddly Texas, Florida, and other red states are kicking the economic asses of the blue states.
If Alberta was independent it would need to ally itself with Canada or the USA for military protection. Militarily Canada is a joke, the choice is easy.
I do not know about Alberta as a whole but worked with many from Calgary in my oilfield days. Those boys were hard core conservative and knew how to party when we got to town.
I got the numbers from this thread. It would be great if they are wrong and the referendum comes close to passing. I think it would be good for Alberta.
My guess is that it’ll be 80% remain, 20% separate.
“ Alberta is economically self sufficient—and could easily exist as a stand alone country.”

Without ANY doubt!
Trump should throw a wrench in the plans of the Carney Liberal Party promoting a no independence vote and offhandedly announce out loud that if Alberta, their richest province, declares independence, Alberta can expect a tariff free trade agreement with the US on the first day of their independence. That should piss off Carney and Ford.
How is the Frog Province not the biggest leach?
Only because to many Alberta quislings are willing to destroy Alberta, so they can be called good Canadians
If Alberta could separate, Trump said he’d support Alberta becoming a state.
No results yet? Is Kalifornia running the election?
Civil War is ugly in the extreme. In my family of old we had those fighting on one side and brothers on the other side. Just obscenely ugly.
Canadian identity is pretty strong, even in the West, at least among whites.
I would be shocked if “start to separate” came close to winning.
