WSJ: Wages Rise as ICE Deports Migrants

Wages in construction are rising as the nation’s labor market recovers from the flood of cheap and subsidized migrant labor imported by pro-migration policies before 2024, according to a Wall Street Journal report.

The recovery — caused by President Donald Trump’s 2024 deportation mandate — is especially rapid in Florida, where Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) has used state police to deliver many illegal migrants to the federal deportation officers.

American construction workers in Florida who build the wooden frames for housing can now charge roughly $42 per hour, up from $20 per hour, Scott Brannock, president of Jacksonville-based Tidewater Homes and the Northeast Florida Builders Association, told the newspaper.

I am sure in Florida where a hurricane can wipe out large areas you have high insurance and special building codes, but most of the rest of the country is still stick built with shingled roofs, drywall insides, etc.

When I was young I wanted to get into carpentry. My brother-in-law who was a carpenter told me to get into something that needs a license like plumber or electrician as Mexicans come up here with a hammer and call themselves a carpenter. So true if you look at a construction crew and how many Mexicans are working there.

When it starts happening here in SoCal it will be awesome, I haven’t seen it since the 80’s when they regularly raided jobsites and restaurants

For those who think $42/hr is high, I would remind you I made the equivalent of $28/hr in current dollars stacking brick on construction sites in Texas in 1981.

Of course, that was before Juan and Jose showed up.

Yet somehow, even adjusted for inflation, homes are not any cheaper.

What you mean is that companies illegally hiring illegal labor failed to anticipate the "market correction" brought about by immigration enforcement.

Being good entrepreneurs, they will adjust or go out of business. "Creative destruction" and all that; or, perhaps employer goose meets labor gander.

Trump needs to go after the big builders like Toll Brothers, The Hovnanain companies, US Homes, all of these major builders hire sub-contractors who hire the illegals.

The big companies know damn well the subs are hiring illegals, they’re writing the checks but they wash their hands of it by saying “Hey, he’s a sub contractor, we have no control over who he hires!’’.

And that is total bs. They know what they’re paying for and who they’re cheating- Americans.

Car insurance rates went up the roof during Biden and have yet to stabilize because of illegals.

Where I’m at, we do business only with generals that use one type of sub-contractors - Amish and Mennonites.

In the past there’s been too much finger pointing between general and subs. Had to threaten legal action to get work completed on time.

That song and dance doesn’t happen with Mennonites and Amish. If something is not right - it gets made right.
