Stand With the Unborn: Missouri’s Amendment 3 Would Stop Abortions

new proposed amendment to Missouri’s constitution that would prohibit abortion and sex-rejecting procedures for minors with gender dysphoria is polling close ahead of November’s election day.

According to polling posted by The New York Times, 44% of likely Missouri voters said they oppose the adoption of abortion safeguards, follow by a close 43% who support it. In contrast, 47% of likely Missouri voters said they support a ban on gender transition procedures for children while 40% oppose it.

In 2024, Missouri voters passed Amendment 3, to codify “the fundamental right to reproductive freedom, including abortion,” according to Ballotpedia. November’s proposed amendment would reverse the 2024 amendment, adding “a new section that would prohibit abortion, except in cases of medical emergency, fetal anomaly, rape, or incest. … For cases of rape and incest, the abortion could only be performed before 12 weeks. It would prohibit abortions based on a fetal disability diagnosis, except in cases of fetal anomaly. It would require parental or guardian consent for minors seeking an abortion and prohibit fetal organ harvesting. The amendment would also provide for the ability of a woman to access healthcare in cases of miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy.”

The proposed legislation would also ban surgeries for children under 18 that would attempt to “change their gender,” in addition to the prescription or administration of hormones and puberty blockers related to the surgeries.

Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway (R) pointed out during a Tuesday appearance on “Washington Watch with Tony Perkins” that this part of the measure is important since the protection of minors against sex-rejecting procedures is not enshrined in Missouri’s constitution.

Hanaway explained that the new Amendment 3 would help correct a wrong in the state’s law. “Two years ago, the pro-abortion forces passed the most extreme measure. It made abortion legal right up until the moment of birth. It had absolutely no safeguards for the health of the mother, and certainly not for the safety of the baby. And in fact, once they passed that measure, they went further and litigated successfully all the previous safety measures that were in place.”

She continued, “The pro-abortion forces came in and made all abortions legal. Now, what’s going to be on the ballot in November is not a total ban. There are exceptions for rape, incest, and the life of the mother. It also allows the legislature to put in place health and safety measures to protect the unborn and the woman going to have any one of these procedures. I know a lot of people would like to have a total ban, but this will save millions of babies of lives if we can get it passed.”

Family Research Council President Tony Perkins further explained the gravity of the issues at hand. “I don’t think people realize how far the 2024 amendment [went]. Under the current measure that’s in the state constitution, the legislature can’t touch this issue. It is beyond the reach of the legislature, the elected representatives of the people. This puts it back into proper perspective. It protects the unborn to a very large degree, but it allows the legislature to continue to address this issue. I think that’s quite significant.”

Hanaway shed light on the importance of distinguishing miscarriage from abortion, sharing,“One of the messages that the pro-abortion folks are driving in Missouri is that women who have an ectopic pregnancy or who are hemorrhaging, that under this measure, they wouldn’t be able to terminate the baby’s life in order to save their lives. And as we know, if you have an ectopic pregnancy, that baby can’t be born alive.”

Earlier this month, the Catholic Bishops of Missouri released a letter pleading with Missourians to vote to protect life in the short weeks ahead. “Brothers and sisters in Christ, we cannot be indifferent when our own state constitution fails to safeguard those who most need its protection,” the letter read. “We urge you to pray and fast, to speak with your family and friends, and to continue working to pass Amendment 3. Stand with the unborn child who cannot speak for himself or herself. Stand with the woman who deserves accompaniment and care, not an unregulated abortion at an unsafe clinic. Stand with the child who deserves the freedom to grow and mature without being subjected to harmful life-altering procedures.”

In Virginia, Democrats are going go enshrine abortion, pervert marriage, and automatic restoration of voting rights for felons in our Constitution. And idiots around here think we should vote Democrat to ‘send Trump a message.’

Pardon me, but FU!!!

It would be very interesting to know the demographics of the 40% who support mutilating children’s genitalia. My guess is overwhelmingly Godless women and homosexual men. Could be wrong, but that’s my guess...

Are you including circumcision, since it’s done only for religious purposes now?

No. It’s not done only for religious purposes now. There are good medical reasons. Not everyone agrees the reasons are strong enough to justify the peocedure - fine - don’t do it.

Perhaps the better choice of words would have been ‘maiming’.

My wife was asking me today about how to vote on Amendment 3. I told her I was voting yes because of who seems to want to tell us to vote no—liberals and the pro abortionists. As we were driving to a doctor’s appointment, I showed her a large ‘yes on 3’ sign that had been painted over with a big no. Our side usually doesn’t do that sort of thing.

The problem is they put an abortion and the child mutilation on the same prop. An army of selfish single issue women will turn out for the abortion part and they will vote straight Dem while they are there. Sometimes you have to be strategic.
