Trump reportedly rethinking livestream of Fort Hood shooter’s execution

Pressure has been mounting as many, including the archbishop of Catholics in the U.S. military, speak out against the Pentagon’s plan to livestream the execution scheduled for December.

President Donald Trump is reportedly reconsidering the widely criticized public broadcasting of the execution of Nidal Hasan, days after the Pentagon announced the plan to livestream it.

Citing four people who have reportedly spoken with Trump, Axios reported Oct. 12 that the President has expressed “misgivings” about the plan in private.

According to Newsmax, Trump reportedly told a confidant outside the administration that the livestream “might not happen,” Axios reported.

The source added that Trump “didn’t sound particularly enthusiastic.”

The plan to livestream it has drawn criticism from a number of Republicans, including Georgia Rep. Austin Scott.

“Livestreaming executions is what jihadists do,” he said, according to Newsmax. “America is better than that.”

On Oct. 10, Trump indicated that the decision remains up in the air.

“Well, you have two thoughts,” Trump told reporters outside the White House. “He’s a vicious killer, killed 13 people in cold blood, wounded over 20. Some of those people will never have their lives back in a true sense. He was vicious, he was violent. There are two thoughts. Don’t show it and show it. ‘Cause you know, by showing it, maybe other people won’t be doing what he did. So I’ll make a decision ultimately. I know what the military would like to do, but we’ll make a decision.”

Fox News reported that the U.S. military has not executed a prisoner since 1961 or executed a person by firing squad since 1945. Hasan is a former Army major convicted of killing 13 people and wounding 32 others in a shooting at Fort Hood, Texas, in 2009, as Zeale News reported. His execution is scheduled for Dec. 3 at Fort Hood. The Department of War announced the plan to livestream the execution, a decision Archbishop Paul Coakley, president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, condemned Oct. 9.

Archbishop Coakley said he learned of the decision “with shock and great sorrow,” emphasizing that a public execution bears grave consequences for the country.

“Our God is the God of life. In no way can Hassan’s actions be condoned, but this decision is a barbaric promotion of a culture of death and must be reconsidered,” he said.

Such a livestream “will only further undermine the moral fabric of our nation and be a blight on the conscience of its people,” he later added, calling for prayers for the intercession of Our Lady of Good Counsel.

On Oct. 10, Pope Leo XIV’s X account highlighted the Pontiff’s words declaring the death penalty as “inadmissible, because it is an attack on the inviolability and dignity of the person.” Vatican News noted that Oct. 10 is World Day Against the Death Penalty, Zeale News reported.

The Most Rev. Timothy Broglio, archbishop for the Military Services, USA, issued a statement Oct. 12 urging reconsideration of the decision to livestream the execution. He also obliged any Catholic assigned to the firing squad to request a religious exemption from carrying out the action, which he said is contrary to Church teaching.

He later added that the U.S. military in general has a good reputation, continuing, “Is there really a value to throwing them in the same boat with terrorists by broadcasting the image of the execution of a man in a wheel chair to the whole world? Does this decision reflect the dignity of the human person?

““Livestreaming executions is what jihadists do,” he said, according to Newsmax. “America is better than that.””

So is Europe, and that’s why Europe is in the process of getting CONQUERED by the Jihadists...and we may well follow in their tracks.

Rush always said: THE ENEMY SETS THE RULES - We followed that in WW2. Europe and the US would be very wise to try to understand those words today.

Trump reportedly rethinking livestream of Fort Hood shooter’s execution

This is a strong hint that after 11/3 Hegseth is going to walk the plank.

DJT will never accept responsibility going to war in Iran without proper preparation (although he could have and should have in March, and it would be mostly forgotten by now).

I obviously don't know who said what in the meetings that happened in February, but the Secretary of War (which Department also now includes the Department of the Navy) has the main responsibility for advising the President on what the military can and cannot do, and Trump's constant bragging about "destruction" as our bases in the region are slowly reduced to rubble and our Arab allies like Jordan and SA are placed in worse and worse straits - all this is going to need a scapegoat, hopefully before we lose any more assets or lives, and I think Hegseth is going to be first in line.

It would be very hard to stick all this on Kimberly Guilfoyle.

“[not livestreaming executions] is why Europe is in the process of getting CONQUERED by the Jihadists.”

That’s not the reason Europe is being infiltrated by undesirables.

I for one hope Trump nixes the live-streaming. If so, Trump will be seen as the cooler head and more thoughtful person than he is usually given credit for. It takes nothing away from the significance of the sentence of death by firing squad, and the fulfillment of which will be justice served.

I don’t think it’s heinous or anything, but it’s out of the ordinary. We don’t livestream other executions, so the public isn’t used to it. And doing it in December when people will be in the joyous Christmas season mode seems like bad timing.

Furthermore, he doesn’t deserve the attention. It will turn him into a martyr for other muslims.

The absence of American boots on the ground in Iran may be the reason this conflict isn’t over with by now.

The absence of American boots on the ground also provides the ability for Trump, if he decides to do so, to unilaterally end the conflict by bring all our combatant troops and materiel home.

Hegseth is not responsible for the command decision to refrain from putting American boots on the ground in Iran.

The American people know all of the above. The buck stops with Trump. Hegseth stays.

If the Live Streaming part was up for debate, it shouldn’t have been brought up as the expected plan, at least not so far ahead of the Kill Date. That only leaves lots of time for the media to condemn propagandize and condemn it.

Hopefully, the firing squad itself is not still open to debate. If not to be Live Streamed, the Execution should have been announced either early that same day or the Day After he was executed.

The solution is pay per view. Nobody will see it accidentally. ALL proceeds should go to the families of those killed and wounded by the muzzie scumbag who did the shooting in the first place.

Yep, stupid idea. Also, shooting is too good for him, just hang him.

RE: The execution of Charlie Kirk was livestreamed.

I’ve seen this argument thrown in on so many threads and even on talk shows that I can’t help but say that this rests on a false equivalence. That many don’t see this is really unfortunate.

Regardless of how one feels about the ethics and morality of livestreaming a public execution, it is not appropriate to bring up the assassination of Charle Kirk as an example.

The fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University was a criminal act of targeted violence—an assassination committed by a lone gunman. The fact that it was captured on video or broadcast via audience feeds was an ACCIDENTAL, UNINTENDED, UNPLANNED BYPRODUCT of a public event being recorded by bystanders.

Capital punishment is a DELIBERATE, FORMAL, and LAWFUL act carried out by the United States government. A government body choosing to officially record and broadcast an execution would be a PLANNED, INTENTIONAL CHOICE, converting legal justice into a state-sponsored media event.

They are NOT EQUIVALENT and I wish people would stop this false equivalency.

Much to the disappointment of a lot of people on this forum it will not be live streamed.

Just like Trump saying he would prosecute Hillary and then backing out of it he will do the same here.

It was a bad idea all along.
