NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The U.S. Supreme Court cleared the way for Tennessee to execute Christa Gail Pike on Wednesday, overturning a last-minute stay that stalled the state’s first execution of a woman in at least 200 years.
Pike, 50, was initially scheduled to die by lethal injection in the morning for a killing she committed at age 18, and witnesses had already gathered at the Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville when the 6th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals voted 2-1 to issue a stay. That court said a delay was needed to consider whether Pike’s allegations of childhood sexual abuse were fully considered at her sentencing.
The Supreme Court’s conservative majority did not explain their order, while the three liberal members signed a dissent that said Pike’s claims deserved a closer look.
A spokesperson for the Tennessee Department of Correction said it would proceed with Pike’s execution Wednesday night ahead of a midnight cutoff on the state’s execution order.

A second last meal? Totally worth it.
She has already served 32 years because of her appeals and petitions.
This could have been over long ago if she had dropped them.
She literally carved a pentagram into a dying girl’s chest.
She is going to be let off to either enter heaven or hell. Get it done. She already had a 31 year break.
The sentence is appropriate.
It is arguable that a murderer has a longer life without the need to earn a living or go without health care because of the time it takes to process appeals. A death sentence should be carried out no later than 12 months after sentence.
She refused her last meal (on Tuesday night). Hmm, as I write that I thought it meant dinner on Tuesday, but she may have just made the request then to not be served breakfast.
I wonder if she had anything to eat today? Inquiring minds want to know.
Well, her victim didn’t have anything to eat today. Or yesterday, or...
Are you serious,
Her crime was monstrous. You can read the details here
This note she wrote to her boyfriend after she received the death penalty gives insight into her character,
That evening, Pike wrote a letter to Tadaryl Shipp.
It read: “Ya see what I get for tryin’ to be nice to the hoe? I went ahead and bashed her brains out so she’d die quickly instead of letting her bleed to death and suffer more, and they f—— fry me! Ain’t dat some s—?”
She signed it: Lil Devil.
Her victim was Colleen Slemmer. She was cruelly murdered by Pike.
Go cry for her victim who died a lingering death if you must cry for someone.
Tadaryl Shipp. Need I ask??
Well...Get on with it!
i just checked its a bit before 9pm. Tennessee Dept of correction says it will go forward with execution but wont give time if they dont do it my midnight they have to get another time set by state supreme court she will issue another appeal. The phrase JUST DO IT does not seem to be found anywhere these days...the victim was from ORANGE PARK next to Jacksonville friends an others collected money so her loved ones could travel to NASVILLE to see justice done an now have to go thru this again. JUST DO IT...LEX
But the mother that smothered her three kids to death should go free. My, how justice has changed in 30 years!
Are you referring to Lindsay Clancy? She strangled her three children.
Had this been a man this would have been done years ago. The whole story is horrific.
“But the mother that smothered her three kids to death should go free. My, how justice has changed in 30 years!”

No two murder cases are the same within the same state, much less two or more different states and some federal jurisdiction as well.
WOW! After reading that there’s no hell hot enough for her.
What an incredible monster!
That they let her live 32 years is the worst injustice.
Except the man involved is not on death row.
I just read an account of the murder and her incarceration. She has had a quite wild, eventful, and checkered existence over the past thirty years, which Colleen Slemmer has spent lying in her grave. This case should have been wrapped up a long time ago.
