Eight US Marines were injured in an Iranian attack on a ship in the Strait of Hormuz on September 14, NBC reported Sunday evening, citing three US sources.
The Marines were not seriously injured by the Iranian cruise missile hit on the vessel, but they sustained smoke inhalation and showed symptoms of concussions, including headaches, according to the report.
The Marines were not on a US Navy ship, but the officials did not share what type of ship it was.
All eight service members returned to duty soon after the attack.

The Pentagon’s public tally of troops wounded during the Iran war was quietly increased by 37 this week without explanation from the Defense Department.
The increase includes 29 Navy sailors and eight Marines, according to a review of the Pentagon’s public database of personnel killed and wounded during U.S. conflicts and other military operations overseas. The web portal is called the Defense Casualty Analysis System, or DCAS.
As of Wednesday, the total number of troops wounded during the Iran war is 861, according to DCAS.

In my 22 years active duty, I knew far more who were killed or seriously injured in training exercises.
I think they were hiding where they were during the attack.
After reading this propaganda story my immediate question to you and anyone else that may know is:
How many service members are injured every week?
Every month?
Every year?
People get hurt all the time in the military.
Just like they do in construction accidents, boating accidents, automobile accidents, etc.
I guess because those service members got hurt because a missile or drone came in contact with a ship they were on, it is eventually reported.
The question is were these “marines” on a commercial ship undercover ? Were they really working with our clandestine services or other private contractors?
Maybe our marines are on these ships operating defensive equipment to shoot down drones and incoming missiles.
We will probably never really know.

If you think that the enemy wasn’t already aware of the efficacy of their strike, you’re living in the 19th century.
We’re discussing them! They’re aren’t hid.
Now, as far as casualty reports go, in my service we had daily reports that often had such things (available for duty, sick, wounded, on quarters, in hospital, missing in action, awol, killed, etc.) that were never “published”, per se. These statistics are reported up to HQs but often without detailed explanations. No body cares why Private Snuffy is puking. If he made a bad parachute landing in training and broke his leg it might get reported but not much more than I said, but still probably warrant an internal safety report. So even if DOD/DOW reported it, the details are simply not available.
And yes, battle order information may be classified in a war scenario. That is, actually, acceptable.
Annual U.S. military training deaths (all branches combined):

—2023: ~180–210 (still being finalized)
That’s roughly 200–300 deaths per year in training alone.
Not combat, not war, not Iran, not Russia; Just training.
Annual serious injuries (hospitalization required):
20,000–30,000 per year:
~500 per week
~70 per day
These include:
—parachute accidents
—vehicle rollovers
—live‑fire range mishaps
—heat stroke
—aircraft training crashes
—maritime training incidents
—physical training injuries
—demolitions mishaps
—airborne operations
—night‑training accidents
This is normal military life.
And I’ll also add, and sadly, stupidity, among the young and the old, from E-1 to 0-10, sometimes by horniness and drunkenness too. I have witness that so many damn times!
I’ll also add, that everyone who’s had a loved one killed in the military deserves to know as soon as possible.
We have whole departments in each service that do this.
However, sometimes, due to mission secrecy, the how and why is not given. Image what an enemy could do if they learned whether a particular attack or event was successful for them? They would use that to their advantage and more might die because someone sitting at a keyboard somewhere demanded to know all the details.
