The young lawyer shamed by a Texas judge for wearing a sleeveless dress was stunned to discover the same jurist beaming beside another young lawyer in a similar dress — and now she’s questioning whether race had something to do with the scolding.
Bexar County Judge Yolanda Huff, who is black,admonished Mariah Medina, who is Mexican-American, for wearing the sheath dress during a Monday court appearance.
But Medina, 32, this week provided The Post photos the 61-year-old judge shared on Facebook in April showing Huff beaming alongside a bare-armed blackattorney at a swearing-in ceremony.
Evidently it wasn’t the dress,” quipped Medina.
“I don’t know whether my race, whether my age, whether my gender, I don’t know whether any of that played a factor,” Medina said. “If it was truly about the professionalism of my attire, I just would expect that it would be enforced across the board and it’s evident here that it wasn’t enforced across the board.”
The defense attorney, who worked previously as a TV news reporter in San Antonio, has been practicing law for just over a year.
In a viral viral encounter at Bexar County Court, Huff referred to her outfit as a “tank top.”
She asked her if she was “ready for a trial dressed like that” before laughing at her in front of other attorneys and defendants in open court.
The humiliating dressing down was still on Medina’s mind when she returned to the courthouse on Wednesday. ***
The Post reached out to Huff for comment.

I think we can all see exactly what was behind this butt ugly judge’s scolding, lol.
No, it’s not always about race. The dress shown being worn by the Black attorney is not a “sheath dress”. Not all sleeveless dresses can rightly be described as such. That dress is modest and appropriate for appearing in court. From the photo I would assume it was also a suitable length.
Not having a photo of the other dress makes it difficult to determine why the judge admonished the lawyer. But sheath dresses are usually rather tight fitting.
The Bear County courts and District courts are about 80% minority females. Most of whom have insufficient experience.
Yes, the dowdy, unattractive judge was clearly resentful of the slender young latina, but the fact remains that a sleeveless dress is always inappropriate in a professional setting. That goes for the chunky young black woman in Foto #1 too.

maybe/likely race, but could easily be the fact lawyers usually dress more business looking for work. It’s not some social event. Easy enough to have some kind of light material short sleeve or 3/4 sleeve topper for the dress.
A swearing in is not exactly work, it’s more an event, so I can see dressing may be slightly different than for work day.
It took place in the court with the judge in her robe exercising her power to administer oaths, so it is a court appearance. Still you’d have to allow some level of leeway though I agree that dress would not ordinarily be appropriate for court. Any lawyer who does not recognize the difference is being deliberately obtuse. But, what the hell, if it earns one a victim stripe, go for it

The judge may or may not be racist, but she’s right about the dress. Though the dress is attractive, it is not just sleeveless, it is made like a tank top.
Judge Yolanda Huff should have asked her for a brief private meeting in chambers and politely asked her to wear better business attire the next time she appears in court. To embarrass her in the courtroom in front of other attorneys and colleagues was really low class.

I went to court in a small county that shall remain nameless in country Missouri this week. The garbage the female lawyers had on was embarrassing to me as a female lawyer who wore a sheath dress, a jacket and heels. Birkenstocks with bare toes hanging out, baggy ugly pants, baggy ugly dresses, 100 extra pounds, wigs with scraggly hair poking out.
Good Lord, ladies, really? Of course there were those of us who looked fine and beautiful too. But these gals with just a sheath dress and no cardigan or jacket? No. You know what you did.

They were very popular in the late ‘50’s, early ‘60’s but had nothing to do with sleeves or no sleeves - they were always form fitting at the waist - no belts...We bought them for the office and loved them...
Maybe the judge thought the lawyer was trying to prejudice the jury via sex appeal or fashion chic.
