A senior Iranian official told Reuters on Tuesday that Iran could reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days if the United States reduces military pressure and ends its blockade of Iranian ports.
The official said Tehran is seeking a formal indication from Washington that it intends to pursue a diplomatic solution, together with an agreed timetable for moving the process forward.
The comments come after Iran's military central command said Sunday that it had received information indicating that the US was preparing to resume military operations with assistance from countries in the region. The Iranian military warned that such action would prompt an unrestricted response from Tehran.
The senior official said Iran's delegation attending the United Nations General Assembly in New York has been granted authority to renew diplomatic contacts with the United States.

That's eight separate dates between August 10 and August 27 on which the White House says Trump made an explicit control/opening claim.
On September 2, Trump said:
“Now that we have it under U.S.A. control, should we change the name Hormuz Strait to Trump Strait?”
That is the most recent explicit statement I found in which he used the words "U.S.A. control."
And on September 14, he said that oil was flowing through Hormuz and that other countries should reimburse the United States for the assistance it was providing.
So there is a significant distinction between Trump's claim of U.S. control and the question of how much commercial traffic is actually getting through. As of today, September 22, Reuters reports only two commodity vessels crossed on Monday, compared with approximately 125 large commercial vessels per day before the conflict.

IRGC controls the Strait to the extent that their threats of mines and occasional pot shots at ships are enought to send insurance rates skyrocketing for traversing the Strait. It ain’t much, but it’s definitely important, and it’s definitely all the more reason to end these MoFos once and for all. Even if Reza is every bit as bad as his usurper forefathers, he’d still be an improvement.
Yeah the answer is NO..obviously Iran is desperate, you can say we are desperate too, for lower gas prices, but if we keep the foot on Iran’s neck they will fold eventually
Iran does not control the Strait they never did, but if they threaten to fire missiles on ships traveling through, that is basically making people scared enough that they wont bother going through
