Martinez Long was sentenced to two years of probation for carrying a concealed weapon.
The shooting happened July 3 at Fairlane Town Center in Dearborn. The chaotic scene played out at the mall, leaving three shot, and two dead after a fight escalated and police were called at 1:25 p.m.
The man that Long shot and killed, Cameron Watkins, had gotten into a fight with, and then shot and killed Keonte Seaborn.
Watkins then shot another person during a struggle, and continued to shoot his gun recklessly in the mall before Long acted.
Long fatally shot Watkins, ending the threat, but did not have a concealed carry permit for his weapon.
The judge... said.... "what do you need a gun for protection in a mall, in the first place?
Long's attorney said that her client was not speaking in court due to the potential for a civil liability case.
"He didn't plan on using it that day. He thought he kept it for protection," she said. "He didn't instigate the fight. He didn't start the fight, and he did pull it out for protection of others."

But at the same time, he stopped a shooter and saved lives.
The judge had the nerve to ask him why he needed a gun at a mall.
If I had been on the jury, I would have used jury nullification to vote not guilty, because this guy is not a threat to innocent people.
Trump needs to call him for a WH visit.
I think I see why his attorney didn't let him testify. You'd get contempt charges for calling the judge a dumbass.

That is a stupid question since he just survived a mall shooting. I have no respect for judges like this. They are the problem I am sure the actual shooter had been released several times before that day.
I carry everywhere (if there is a metal detector I don’t go in, aside from occasional flying). Even in the gym.

I think the reason he had to use it at the mall answers the judges question as directly as possible.

What we don’t know is if he had any gang affiliation and was somehow connected with the victim that got shot from the perp he killed. Lots of unknowns so maybe he got a pretty good deal with just probation.
The next time the judge or his family are in a mall and some deranged gunman starts shooting at them, perhaps there will be no armed person around willing to stop the gunman.

I know the guy did the right thing but damn, i totally understand why ive seen attorneys tell concealed carry holders you really really need to understand what having a legal gun in public means. If you use it you are gonna open yourself up to so much both criminal and civil. You can be embroiled in utter BS for years and you may lose, especially if you live in a blue city or state. I don’t have a permit anymore but i will still carry sometimes knowing that I will not pull unless i personally fear for me and my families life.
Well I was half right. I just figured the Negro would have been female. And since this is Dearborn, I would also have guessed muslim.
