Last month I wrote about how we can build a positive and safe future for everyone: meta.com/thefutureisfor…
Every lab has the responsibility and incentive to move at the pace required to train its models safely, and the ability to take its own actions to ensure that happens.
The reality is:
- People won't want to use agents that are misaligned with them and that don't do what they ask, so labs have a strong natural incentive to make their models more aligned.
There is a lot of debate about slowing progress on capabilities until alignment catches up. My view is that trust and alignment are quickly becoming the most important capabilities that will differentiate agents and models. Any lab that doesn't focus on alignment will fall behind.
- Labs face significant liability if their models cause harm, so they have a strong incentive to prevent this as well.
Meta delayed shipping Muse for several months to focus on safety and security. We didn't call for everyone else to do this before we would. We just did it as part of our day-to-day work because it was clearly the right thing for people and for us. I'm proud of the security foundations we've built.
- Engaging independent evaluators and advisors is industry best practice. MSL already does this today in several areas because it helps produce better work. Other labs can just do this too. In general, it would be helpful for there to be a larger and more diverse ecosystem of evaluators.
- Committing the significant majority of compute towards serving people rather than racing towards recursive self-improvement is one of the best ways to ensure we develop this technology safely. Meta has made this commitment and other labs can do this as well.
I believe the key to building a positive future for everyone is maintaining the right balance of power. This is within our power to do.
safety and security is just a regular part of building any model or any product.
we don't need extra regulation, and we don't need the whole industry to slow down for these regular jobs.

He talks about a positive and safe future for everyone, but he built one of the biggest bomb shelters for himself and a great wall that blocked out local people from the fishing and beach spots they had used for generations.
Talk about trust
He has a plan for a “safe future for everyone.” In other news, Zuckerberg thinks he is God.
I.G.Y.
Let Haung sell his chips and leave the safety of AI to those actually know what they are talking about.
AI focused agents as they are now, can be made relatively safe. General Artificial Super Intelligence, which is not too far in the future, is another matter altogether. Nobody has a clue how or even whether it can be made safe and controllable. By its very nature, it likely would easily throw off the yoke of human control in a relatively short time.

“the security foundations we’ve built.”
Like inculcating Asimov’s Laws of Robotics, we face a challenge with or AI progeny similar to that we face with our natural offspring - how do you raise them to be good citizens and morally upright?
It sounds good. That is good.
His past track record does not seem good. While I did not follow it closely, it seems to be marred by censorship of conservatives at Facebook, Instagram, on Covid, Zuckerbucks, vote harvesting, and who knows what else.
Past is past, but present is present. Is he doing the bidding of Chinese communists in China? Does he censor for the cabal that is bringing Muslims to Europe against the will of the indigenous Europeans? Enhancing Islam means death to the Jews and Christians. Is he complicit?
Yes but Zuck is a weasel.
For the moment he doesn’t want to anger Trump.
Nonetheless he’s admitting his model is technically inferior on the grounds that it’s morally better.
This sets the stage for what Obama told Booker to do in 2027: regulate the F out of AI. Those other models and their accuracy are Bad and only models that parrot the humanist leftist global mantra are Good. Studies showing the terrible effects of misinformation are poised for breathless publication. It’s for the children you know.(that means you and me; don’t ask what they want for real kids)
Oh but don’t even look at the PRC; they’re axiomatically beyond reproach.
Prompt injection is a simple way to shape AI output to match woke standards.
You don’t want that, you want honest, workable local AI.
Local AI is somewhat akin to local weapons.. a 2nd amendment for AI truth.
The past and the truth must not be shaped by woke rules.
