President Trump raged at “Meet the Press” anchor Kristen Welker Sunday for casting aspersions on his endorsement record — saying she should be reprimanded by the FCC.
Welker said Trump had “mixed results” with his highly coveted endorsement in GOP primary elections this cycle, but Trump lashed out at the claim and urged FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr to take the “Threat to our Country very seriously.”
“How can anyone be allowed to say this, working for freely given Public Airwaves? Results are attached. Because of this purposeful inaccuracy, she will be reported to the FCC for rebuke or punishment,” Trump bristled on Truth Social. “Unfortunately, she is not the only one.”
NBC News runs a network of local broadcast stations that get FCC licenses.
The government issues those licenses because there is limited public airwave spectrum. ***
Trump had made some 313 endorsements and had a 96% success rate, according to Ballotpedia. Many of those endorsements were in primaries that weren’t very competitive. ***
“The Radical Left News is going out of their way to harass, demean, and libel anything ‘TRUMP,’” the president fumed. “…In actuality, it is, without question, the strongest Endorsement in the History of Politics.”
“The Press is a Disgrace to our Nation, and I hope that Chairman Brendan Carr, and the fine people of his Commission, will take this Threat to our Country very seriously,” Trump concluded. “Thank you for your attention to this very important matter of Fake Polls and Commentary.”***

Welker is your typical mainstream media Democrat propagandist. I get that.
But there’s zero reason to get the FCC involved. Welker is just stating her opinion. And that’s fully protected by the 1A.
Disclaimer: I’m sure Trump knows that, too. So he’s probably just trolling her a bit.
As our president said, it is a threat to our Country and it should be taken very seriously.
There are so many more important battles for him to be fighting with the media.
South Park was right when they had Trump often threatening “I’m gonna sue you!”.
He has had run-ins with her in the past.

I won’t argue against that. Welker deserved some push-back. Refute what she said. That’s what Trump did. Nevertheless, her comments are protected by the 1A.
What Welker said was misleading. But not incorrect because Trump’s endorsements were not 100% successful. And she did not advocate violence.
You are wrong. There is no 1st Amend.ent right to use the public airways. She is using the public airways for a selfish, pilitical agenda. That violates FCC rules.

Trump continues to boost and inflate Kristen Welker’s profile as a News Reporter. She is probably the envy of most other NBC News Reporters, if her every utterance can fluster and trigger the president so easily. That kind of status is what all reporters dream of. He makes her seem far more influential than what she actually is at this time.
**Three years ago, it was Rachel Maddow who had this level of media influence, but Rachael had a stronger on camera demeanor, and therefore, made a better ‘Sparring Partner’ for conservatives. Rachel M. is still around, but in lesser quantities, now having become semi-retired by her choice.
So what
Wake up.
There is no 1st amendment right to use the public airways any way one sees fit. The privilige to use the public airways is granted by the FCC. Its rules must be respected.

It’s against the rules JimRob set up here. And it does nothing to advance conversation.
You are of course correct in that Welker is using the public airwaves. That adds a layer of complexity here.
Does she have an agenda here? You betcha. So do most folks who do use those airwaves. Including conservatives.
But she said nothing demonstrably wrong. And she did not advocate violence. That should be the test.
Otherwise, any radio conservative who doubted Obama’s patriotism or Biden’s sanity would be in trouble the next time there’s a D president.
And FCC license is not a Constitutional right.
If our media even pretended to be fair and balanced this would be a very different country IMHO.

It is sad that Trump is doing what many conservatives and people here on this website accuse the left of doing. They say the left uses government to punish political opponents. Trump, leader of MAGA, is using government to punish poltical opponents. Not a peep from conservatives and many here on this website of his politicization of government agencies and government itself.

Yep. I agree 100%. It adds a level of complexity, as I noted in my post #13.
But is the call for Welker to be punished because she undoubtedly broke an FCC rule? Or is because she said something the president doesn’t agree with?
I would say it’s the latter.
As I mentioned in my last post, there are plenty of conservative radio hosts who say things Democrats don’t like. And sometimes those hosts really push the envelope. But they remain on the air. The 1A protects them from any D reprisals.
Trump just handed more evidence and proof that Disney will use in their lawsuit against your FCC.
