The Department of General Services (DGS) has been directed to remove all three Confederate monuments and memorials from Capitol Square on Friday, Aug. 28, including one of Confederate General Stonewall Jackson, one of Gov. William “Extra Billy” Smith, a former Confederate general and another of Confederate Dr. Hunter Holmes McGuire.

Spot on.
As I have often said on this forum, technology and culture may change, but their Leftist tactics are the same as they have always been.
They tried to close all the churches in Russia and blot out all the czarist history. They worked long and hard for 75 years to make the new Soviet Man, an unselfish Communist. It failed as it always will. All socialism gave them was misery
and an iron dictatorship (as it always does). Now the churches are full and they are building new ones and they have Czar Putin in the Kremlin. Reminds me of the French Revolution that ended with Napoleon.
Most of the Confederate soldiers were not slaveowners. To be sure, the push for secession in 1860/61 was led by the leading politicians who were slaveowners, but why did the rest of the white population go along? My theory is that they were fed up with sanctimonious Northerners and felt that the South would be better off as an independent country.
The Republicans in 1861 were willing to add a constitutional amendment to protect slavery where it already existed. Lincoln did not make ending slavery the goal at the beginning of the war--he probably would not have gotten enough volunteers willing to risk their lives for that cause.
If it had not been for secession and the Civil War, slavery would have continued in the US for much longer.
“Yet as you noted, all sorts of public structures are named after him. The woke leftists in the Democrat Party don’t seem to care. And neither does the media.
It’s disgusting hypocrisy.”

No surprise. FR’s got trolls here who bark about it, as well.
If the war never happened then slavery never happened.
There was no war. Its been erased. Your kin did nothing for no one.
I cringe when you compare my ancestors to Nazis.
A little bit pertinent to this is when Dolly Parton changed the name of Dollywood’s “Dixie Stampede” to “Stampede. After she went woke, she believed the “Dixie” would offend some people.
Not the same as a statue, but the same mindset. Disgusting.
Yyyeahhh...I guess that’s how you explain the fact that the Republican Party was created to end slavery? Or are you going to deny that for 1,0001st time?🙄
Oh, if VA could return to the days of the Byrds, who had fiscal sanity and moral values. The state is on the way to irrevocable insanity.
Who says that VA has learned its lessons of Spanberger?. There is no evidence to support that view, is it?
The Civil War was a very complex war, not necessarily over only slavery. Happens when politicians get hold of history.
Didn’t Charles II do this to Cromwell?
Nope, didn’t say there was.
Ending slavery. especially by war, WAS a radical liberal idea in the 19th century. Republicans were seen as radical.
You're right - the process is well underway...they've been organized for decades.
Yes, that is another part of this very long essay, but here a link for one of my favorite references.
Yes. A few years ago I visited a couple of old plantations in Louisiana. On one, the slave quarters had been torn down - and then recreated so people could remember what slavery was like in the old South.
