Burnham invites Trump to Manchester in first call as prime minister
Washington Examiner ^ | July 20, 2026 | Brady Knox

U.K. Prime Minister Andy Burnham and President Donald Trump held their first call since Burnham took office, an opportunity the prime minister used to invite Trump to Manchester.

Tensions between Trump and Burnham were evident before the latter took office, largely over pointed comments Burnham had made against the president in the past.

Trump was less than friendly in comments toward Burnham in previous weeks, but he seems to have turned over a new leaf in recent days. Burnham had said Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky would be among his first calls after taking office, a pledge he fulfilled just a couple of hours after being sworn in.

Details of the call weren’t immediately made available by the White House or 10 Downing Street, but an official familiar with the call told Politico that Burnham, who before retaking office as a minister of Parliament was the mayor of the Greater Manchester area, had invited the president to his city. Trump responded that he would like to take him up on the offer.

Seems to be an empty and meaningless gesture. We all know it will never happen.

I guess he and his people don’t understand Trump very well.

Trump doesn’t like to play the “extend and pretend” political game.

DJT should stay out of rabid moslem countries, IMHO...

Bomb them, yes; provide a target, no...

Which mosque in Manchester do you want DJT to meet you at? Now that Manchester is over 20% muslim. Just sayin’.

It's probably higher than that. At least 25%.

In other words, conquered.

I think he doesn’t understand the pecking order. Trump shouldn’t be coming to you in the U.K. YOU should be coming to the USA to meet Trump.

I know that’s the case in Birmingham too. A tragedy that is beyond words.

In the middle of all that is going on I don’t think President Trump should be going to a UK city that has a significant Muslim population.

President Trump extended kind words to Burnham because Burnham made comments about plans to drill for North Sea oil.

Greater Manchester was ground zero for the Muslim grooming gangs, gangs that preyed on and raped English girls.

If Trump does go, he should remind Burnham of that - right in front of the TV cameras.

🚨 BRITAIN’S NEW PM JUST ROLLED UP — AND IT’S ALREADY SMELLING LIKE 1970s SOCIALISM

Andy Burnham is now the UK’s 7th Prime Minister in a decade after Starmer tapped out. “King of the North” vows to do things differently by nationalizing utilities, trains, buses, and throwing… a massive bone to the unions.

Vilifying Thatcher on day one while the bond markets sweat? Classic Labour. Can he please the crazy lefty base AND keep Britain solvent + boost defense spending? Good luck with that catch-22.pic.twitter.com/Ya7qDaFz9B— Gunther Eagleman™ (@GuntherEagleman) July 20, 2026

Trump should have told him to restore personal freedoms in Britain if he wants a relationship with the US.
