JD Vance is wrong to blame Israel for his Iran peace deal’s failure thus far
NY POST ^ | 7/17/26

Posted on 07/19/2026 4:08:55 PM PDT by Words Matter

It was Iran that broke the 60-day “comprehensive cease-fire” established by the Memorandum of Understanding by attacking ships in the Strait of Hormuz, period.

Before the ink was dry on the MOU, which guaranteed open passage through the Strait of Hormuz, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard asserted Tehran’s control and ownership of the waterway and warned that merchant ships must obtain its OK to transit; then it started firing on vessels that didn’t comply.

Blocking sea lanes reopened the war, and Israel had nothing to do with it.

It’s also preposterous to charge that Jerusalem wants the war to drag on “indefinitely”; it’s always been clear about its objectives on Iran: destroy its nuclear capability, eviscerate its conventional-war machine; if possible, foster the end of the regime that makes Tehran an enemy of civilization.

Yes, Israel hated the MOU, which was drawn up completely without its involvement — and so left it no way to undermine it, except insofar as Iran claimed that Israeli self-defense against Hezbollah’s attacks from Lebanon somehow broke the truce.

Even then, Jerusalem yielded to President Donald Trump’s demands that it back off in Lebanon.

Vance went to other ugly places in his chat with Rogan: pretending that an open Israel-funded PR effort to counter antisemitism among younger conservatives somehow is actually a secret drive to undo peace with Iran and smear him; suggesting that the craziest Jeffrey Epstein conspiracy theories are true and Israel is part of the plot.

Maybe he wanted to deflect responsibility for the failure of an MOU he helped negotiate; maybe he resents how Trump opted for a war he likely opposed and then stuck him with trying to negotiate an exit.

Whatever: Pitching conspiracy theories, especially ones that flirt with rank antisemitism, is the wrong way out of your dilemma, JD.

Stop making sense with all your facts.
When Vance stops appearing in public and on podcasts I’ll believe he’s crossing Trump. Until then Trump is aware of and not stopping, everything Vance has been doing and saying.

JD Vance negotiated a pile of crap.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Trump negotiated this pile of crap. He pushed hard for it and even boasted that if it worked he was going to take the credit. If it failed, he said he would blame Vance.
Trump’s made way too many mistakes in his war with Iran. The MOU was one of the worst.
JD wasn’t the negotiator.
Trump sent two clowns to do the talking.
Kushner and Witkoff.
I still never figured out who sending two Jews to negotiate with morons who HATE Jews was a good idea. Did Trump do this to insult the IRGC?
He just blame the Jews like everyone else. But as noted above the Jews had nothing to do with IRGC decision to keep attacking ships.
IRGC thinks it can salvage a win by leveraging its geography. But that is really the only card it has left to play.
Vance was given an impossible mission because you can’t negotiate with islamo fascists anymore than you could negotiate with Hitler or Genghis. Your only choice is to destroy them and regime change.
Right.
If Vance even uttered one syllable that Trump disagreed with, we’d have seen a harsh reaction from the White House.
If there’s blame, it’s certainly not this.
Perhaps our CIC should take some responsibility because he certainly doesn’t get it and I’m sure he’s taken some lousy advice.
I think we have every right to question and criticize both allies and enemies, and Israel is not entitled to any exception on that front. But Vance seems more pre-occupied with Israel’s flaws than with Iran’s. I’ve already had concerns about his unwillingness to distance himself from the increasingly deranged Tucker Carlson and his unwillingness to criticize the groypers who insult his wife - Vance is someone I really liked in the days leading up to the 2024 election and he’s still someone I want to like, but this last year he’s making it more and more difficult.
Quotes:
Foreign Influence and American Politics
JD VANCE: I think some are better at it than others. I think the Israelis are definitely more effective at it than most. But I wouldn’t say that they are the only effective country by any means that tries to influence American politics. I just think you have to be self-aware about it. I mean why wouldn’t you? It’s a country of 9 million people. We have 330 million people and so of course, they’re going to try to persuade Americans. They’re going to try to move Americans in one direction or another. I think that’s just the nature of the beast.
JOE ROGAN: But it’s more than that. The concern is that they’re spying on American politicians, that they’re— there’s concerns about funding. There’s concerns about influence. There’s concerns about whether or not politicians are— whether they’re aligned with Israel or whether they’re aligned with the United States first.
JD VANCE: Well, there’s certainly— like I definitely get those concerns. But my sense is that the way that all foreign influence works in the United States is people try to manipulate American public opinion and then from manipulating public opinion, they try to get the outcomes that they want.
I mean this thing is a very good example of this. We know— I’m telling you beyond a reasonable doubt. We know that the negotiation strategy that the president has asked us to pursue, and again, with limitations, like when the Iranians hit ships, the president has been willing to knock the hell out of the Iranians in response. This is not just a negotiation. It’s negotiation. It’s military. It’s all these things.
But I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that there have been people within the Israeli government who are trying to actually shift us away from that policy because they want to continue the military campaign. By the way, there are people within their government that I love, I have good relationships with. I hope and I don’t think that they’re part of this. I mean the ambassador of Israel to the United States I think is actually a really good guy. Obviously, he cares about Israel first. I care about America first.
But there are some people within their system we know beyond a shadow of a doubt who are manipulating and trying to change American public opinion to keep the war going on indefinitely. Again, not towards any objective but just indefinitely. So does it happen? Yes.
But I guess what I would say to the Americans who sort of see this and are frustrated by it, my attitude would be you should be frustrated at American leaders who are persuaded by this, affected by this. Countries are going to do what countries do. I really don’t— it doesn’t bother me that Qatar tries to influence the United States of America and they do. I like a lot of the Qataris just like I like a lot of the Israelis. It doesn’t bother me that Israel tries to do this. Frankly, it doesn’t even bother me that Russia or some of these other countries do it. It’s just the nature of being a political leader in 2026.
What does bother me is when those operations, those influence campaigns actually affect American political judgment because they shouldn’t, because we should be thinking what is in the best interest of the United States of America.
JOE ROGAN: Do you think that Israel is affecting American political judgment?
JD VANCE: I mean I certainly think that there are a lot of talking points and there are a lot of arguments that make their way into American political discourse. I think there are a lot of social media campaigns that definitely influence Americans and affect Americans. Do I think that it has been dispositive on any particular issue? Like I think that is a much more difficult question.
JOE ROGAN: Do you think that we would have started this war in Iran without the influence of Israel?
JD VANCE: I think the president completely separate from any influence from Israel believes very strongly, and again, I agree with this, that Iran should not have a nuclear weapon.
JOE ROGAN: Right. But that was the reason he bombed them in June. Right. That was the initial attack, right?
JD VANCE: June of last year.
JOE ROGAN: Yeah.
JD VANCE: Midnight Hammer. Yeah.
JOE ROGAN: Right. Do you think he would have continued with the most recent campaign if it wasn’t for the influence of Israel?
JD VANCE: Yes.
JOE ROGAN: Yes, I do. Really?
JD VANCE: I do. Yeah. Look, I think again and I see this and I see it even from people that are in our coalition and this would be my flip side to the hawks who have been attacking me or the president mercilessly over negotiation. I would sort of turn this back on some of the doves or some of the realists who have been attacking the president of the United States.
JOE ROGAN: The doves? Those are the peace people?
JD VANCE: Yes, peace people.
JOE ROGAN: That’s what you call them, the doves?
JD VANCE: Hawks and doves. You never heard that phrase?
JOE ROGAN: I’ve heard hawks. I’ve heard hawks. I don’t think I’ve ever heard doves.
JD VANCE: Hawks and pigeons, hawks and— I don’t know.
JOE ROGAN: I think it’s more doves.
JD VANCE: Doves is good, right? So what I think a lot of people— I’ve heard this argument— is this idea that Donald Trump was sort of— I’ve even heard people say he was blackmailed into this.
JOE ROGAN: Yeah.
JD VANCE: By the Israelis. That’s not true, dude. It’s just not true. I’ve seen the decision-making up close. Again, whether you agree or disagree with our negotiation, or whether you agree or disagree with the decision to launch the campaign Epic Fury to begin with, the idea that Donald Trump is being blackmailed is crazy to me because again, I see the way that he makes decisions. I see the way that he processes this stuff. The idea that he picks up the phone with anybody and says, “Hey, I’m going to take orders from you.” No, that’s just not how Donald Trump operates.
JD sinks into the toxic mist. Not MAGA
Not MAGA? If I remember correctly VD was skeptical of the Iran war at closed door meetings with Netanyahu. But when Trump, decided to throw his lot in with Bibi, JD went full support of the CINC. JD wanted to keep the good times rolling with the early Trump admin, and Tump threw his hat in with military adventurism. Do I believe Iran was going to launch a missile at the US in 2 weeks? No I don't. I was part of the Multi National Force and Observers in the Sinai back in the early 90'S when Bibi was making the same case. If anyone has been MAGA, it is JD Vance.
Vance expects Israel to go easier on the type of attacks that the USA would never tolerate if they came from, say, Toronto.
To all of the lazy, naive and/or moronic commenters bashing Vance for comments he “supposedly” made in the Joe Rogan interview.... how about reading the transcript of what Vance actually DID SAY... vs. what some aholes claimed that he said. How very refreshing would that be... for a change?
Vance never blamed Israel... ie the entire nation... for a damn thing in that interview. Vance mentioned “certain elements of the Israeli government” and “people within the Israeli government” that were against ‘the deal’ with Iran. This is no different than what we are enduring here in America with our enemy within, the damn Democrats that have been ‘bashing the deal’.
Vance spoke the truth there. What he did NOT do is accuse or blame the nation of Israel, like it’s being ‘reported’ by certain factions of liars and propagandists.
Comments by Vance related to Israel:
“By a former Trump campaign person who was himself paid by certain elements within the Israeli government. And those people are attacking me viciously for quite literally trying to accomplish the negotiation objective that the president set for the country.”
“You know, I like, I don’t actually mind. I don’t mind that the You know, let’s say certain elements of the Israeli government want to criticize the deal or have disagreements about the deal.”
“But I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that there have been people within the Israeli government who are trying to like actually shift us away from that policy because they want to continue the military campaign. And by the way, like there are people within their government that I love, I have good relationships with.”
He said nothing wrong and nothing that was not true. You people taking the word of certain factions ‘rephrasing’ what he said are either really stupid... or part of the problem we patriots are up against in our struggle to preserve America as-founded and as a free nation.
Catch a clue and take some time to research before bashing those on our side that really ARE trying to save America.
