UN Ambassador Bursts Mamdani's Bubble Over His Wish to Arrest Israeli PM Netanyahu in NYC

When will the members of the far-Left cabal learn?

New York City, as the home of the United Nations headquarters, is hosting the U.N. General Assembly in the fall. And Democratic Socialist NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani expressed during a recent interview with a New York Times interviewer that he's holding onto a deeply-held wish and campaign promise: to have Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrested when the world leader arrives in his city to attend it.

“I believe that Prime Minister Netanyahu belongs in the Hague,” Mr. Mamdani told Lulu Garcia-Navarro this week on “The Interview,” a New York Times show, referring to the home of the United Nations’ International Court of Justice.

“He’s a war criminal who has been charged by the International Criminal Court,” Mr. Mamdani added. “And what you will find is that is an opinion that is held by many, purely because of what his actions have wrought over these last many years.”

Mamdani wasn't finished, though, admitting that he's not 100 percent sure "whether he has the legal authority" to do it, and to that end, he's still consulting with his administration's Law Department.

Netanyahu, meanwhile, told a WABC radio host that Mamdani's words make it clear to everyone whose side he's on - that of terrorists like Hamas:

Netanyahu, appearing on Sid Rosenberg’s radio show, claims Mamdani “champions” Hamas and “apologizes and accuses for Iran,

READ MORE: New York's Socialist Mayor Stands by Threat to Arrest Netanyahu

As my colleague Ward Clark wrote, this guy is in way over his head here:

The United States isn't beholden to the International Criminal Court (ICC). The ICC has no jurisdiction in U.S. territory, and Mayor Mamdani has no legal grounds to order the Israeli PM's arrest. But that doesn't stop him from yapping about it.

Well, we do still have the First Amendment, so I say let him talk. Someone else with thoughts on Mamdani's empty threat was U.S. Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz, who only needed four bullet points to dispense with the mayor's obvious "political theater":

Mayor Mamdani: here’s why your threat to arrest PM Netanyahu’s in NYC during UNGA is not going to happen:
1. The U.S. is not party to the Rome Statute that underlies the ICC,
2. The UN Headquarters Agreement grants diplomatic protections to visiting heads of gov’t,
3.…— Ambassador Mike Waltz (@michaelgwaltz) July 18, 2026

Mayor Mamdani: here’s why your threat to arrest PM Netanyahu’s in NYC during UNGA is not going to happen:

1. The U.S. is not party to the Rome Statute that underlies the ICC,

2. The UN Headquarters Agreement grants diplomatic protections to visiting heads of gov’t,

3. head-of-state immunity applies, &

4. federal authority trumps any local mayor’s wishes.

This is pure political theater.

Exactly right. Another thing I would have brought up is the fact that the Trump administration stood up to the UN legal body as recently as this week, and previously punished many of these rogue ICC judges for charging members of our military, as well.

The ICC May Have to Go Through the United States to Arrest Benjamin Netanyahu

Wasn't it just a week ago when Mayor Mamdani's office got caught trying to meet with the Iranian ambassador? Who does that, and thinks it's in a city mayor's job description? Whether it's free public transit, government-run grocery stores, or arresting world leaders on behalf of an illegitimate world court, someone needs to put Mamdani in his place. It's been clear for a while now that he truly does not understand what the job is that he was hired to do.

It’s undoubtedly a federal crime to seek to arrest a diplomat.

Figure out what it is and arrest Mullah Mandami if he tries.

Agree. It is more likely that Mamdani would be arrested than Netanyahu at this point.

I hope Mamdani issues such an order, so that he himself can be arrested for sedition.

It’s all political theater.

He wants to show the New Segregationists (DSA Islamists) that he can stand in the schoolhouse doorway and oppose the federal government over the Negroes (Jews).

I hope Mamdani issues such an order, so that Mossad can deal with him!

That's about as big a secret as fire being hot.

I’ve never seen so much media focus on a city mayor. Enough, tired of hearing about this Commie idiot.

“Figure out what it is and arrest Mullah Mandami if he tries.”
They need to figure out a way to just deport the F’er!
He’s an enemy combatant.
Throw his wife out with him.
I can’t stand to even look at his filthy, smirking face!

Mamdani thinks NYC is his ,LOL

Imagine if he had control of an armed force. He and those like him who have polluted America remind me of Obama's call for a 'civilian national security force'.

Someone needs to tell this scumbag mayors don’t get to arrest world leaders. If he had gone to US schools as a child, maybe he would have learned something.
