The article states the White House is indeed going after staff.

"but said the administration was not targeting reporters but was concerned about people leaking classified information."

Naturally the way this article is slanted, it makes it seem like reporters are the bad guys. Which they are. But that's besides the fact.

Maybe the idea is to find out who is leaking the info to them. Also, once they know it is security info, don’t publish it.

Interrogating an idiot reporter that leaks obviously classified material is entirely appropriate. There should be consequences. This will cost taxpayers big money and it could have cost the life of a sitting president. The reporter must reveal their source and probably be fined too. If not some jail time. That is not an appropriate story.
