A man was shot and killed Tuesday morning by federal agents in Houston's East End, according to United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials. The victim's family is now disputing ICE's account of what happened.
ICE officials said the incident unfolded just before 7 a.m. near the intersection of Canal Street and Wayside Drive.
An ICE spokesperson said officers were trying to pull over a vehicle as part of a "targeted enforcement operation." They said the driver of the vehicle they tried to pull over, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, tried to get away. ICE officials said Araujo is here illegally from Mexico.
Investigators said Araujo rammed into an ICE vehicle and refused to follow orders. They also said he tried to "weaponize" his vehicle and run over an officer.
Federal officials said the officer opened fire in self-defense during the incident, and Araujo was struck. He was taken to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Surveillance video obtained by KHOU 11 from a nearby business shows a white van traveling on Wayside before turning left onto Canal Street. Two dark SUVs appear behind it, one passing the van and one staying behind it. The van then makes a U-turn and pulls over alongside a business, where one of the SUVs stops next to it.
Separate cellphone video recorded by bystanders as officers moved in appears to show officers on top of the man as he lay bleeding on the ground.
The stepdaughter of a man detained during the operation spoke with KHOU 11 and asked that her identity be withheld for her family's safety. She said her stepfather called her mother and said he was being followed by ICE. The call then cut off, and her mother was unable to reach him again.

Easy now. Those are human beings. If their only crime is being here illegally, a death sentence is kind of steep. Maybe deport them and bar them from legal re-entry of any kind?
Now, if they assail or attempt to kill law enforcement or other innocents, then justified shootings are all good.
On the other hand, I want to go back to a time in America when, if you tried to run over a cop with your car, everybody expected the cop to shoot you. Regardless of your legal status in this country.

Very biased reporting...the man holding the mic clearly didn’t approve of the action taken by ICE..no matter how he personally felt, it shouldn’t come across in his reporting.
