The U.S. Coast Guard is finally eliminating race-based officer commissioning standards for incoming college grads.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), under which the Coast Guard operates, announced the reform in a May 29 press release. It is rather surprising that such a reform was not implemented until more than a year into the second Trump administration, but it is always better late than never. We cannot gamble with our future.
Advertisement The reforms specifically concern college students who are looking to enlist in the Coast Guard and commission as officers. The College Student Pre-Commissioning Initiative (CSPI) has till now given preferred status to students coming from universities that meet arbitrary racial quotas for their student body. But no more.

How about the rest of Americans? Still racial and gender quotas?
When I applied for a commission in 1975, the quotas were as follows:
Coast Guard Academy: 50% Women and minorities: 25% Caucasians: 25%
Seems to me the Coast Guard has a history of racial discrimination!
Sounds racis’ to me.
I was at the Coast Guard academy in 1980 when they had their first female Regimental Commander.
This is the highest ranking leader of the cadets. She entered the corps with a handful of other females. Funny how when it came time to chose the leader of the corps, they chose one of the girls.
Even as a plebe I could tell that the other upperclassmen resented her. She was proto DEI.
We had two girls in my platoon. They both washed out in the first week. One claimed the boys wouldn’t stop looking at her (she was pretty hot). The other just couldn’t handle the physical demands, even though they were lowering the standards for women - flex arm hangs instead of pull ups, push up on their knees, etc.
Anti white male requirements are not Constitutional.
What a perverse country, we have become.
I eventually enlisted as a reservist in 1984. I was able to transfer as a Air National Guard Communications Center Specialist, to the Coast Guard Reserve as a Radioman.
In 1997, I took the exam for CWO3. I think I aced it. However, I was told the they would not make any CWOs then because the candidates were too white.
I retired as an E7 in 1998 after 20 and 1/2 years.
The way the article is worded leads me to believe the college graduate applicants to the Coast Guard are still race and gender based. In my informed opinion, the Coast Guard is still racist, until I am proven incorrect. And, the evidence must be overwhelming, not just an article in PJM.
With such deliberate lowering of standards one can expect general lowering of quality of life across the board. Heck, we could probably end up with looting and shooting in the streets of our cities. Why, a nation with such low standards could end up with a dementia-riddled occupant of the White House.
Starting next week Walmart Greeters will start challenging black and brown customers for their receipts with the same zeal currently reserved for whitey!
My WalMart has gotten smart(er). They now have people watching every self checkout transaction!
No one is (really) watching the U.S. Coast Guard. I am pretty sure they will remain racist and sexist!
All branches of the service require college degrees for commissioned officers.
Couldn’t do flex arm hangs? Sheesh.
My nephew we in the Marine Corps several years. He told me about a female marine at the Mountain Warfare training center in the Sierras. They had no food and had to live off the land. They killed a mountain goat but the female could not bring herself to butcher it! The men finally “convinced” her to do her duty.
My son had female fire fighting cadets at the academy. He said none of the men wanted to depend on them to drag unconscious bodies (fire fighter partner or victim) out of a burning building.
“C’mo, maign(Scarface pronunciation)”...
That could never happen (:
The first time I was told that the job that first looked good for me didn’t accept whites was in 1970, that was the Texas Unemployment Office, the guy’s eyes lit up when he saw the listing and then he said with a sad tone that blacks only.

When I was in OCS would do it.

Yes. I had a B.S. in Physics degree at that time. I applied two years later when I worked one year, then went back to school for three semesters and had another B.S. in Electrical Engineering.
So I had a college degree.

I had an email from my boss (good guy) who said that since we were directed only to hire a black, there would be no more interviews with white candidates.
Yes, there was discrimination in 1970. And no, Reagan did not fix this. Lots of RINOs were still infiltrating the Republican Party.
However, the U.S. Coast Guard is a racist organization. They have a history of discriminating against Caucasians, and as an organization is not merit based.
My son had female cadets at the police academy. At every stage - getting in, evaluation during, class rank at the end - they had DEI influence. When being considered for the program you got extra points for being a woman, a minority, post high school education (okay), a veteran (okay), previous law enforcement experience (okay) and ...uh...sexually diverse.
My college educated, white, straight son came in second place (barely) to a gay, black, female veteran who got booted off her previous LE job for sexual indiscretion...she had an affair with a female supervisor. Coming in first got you a little more pay, better assignments, and a little more flexibility with time off.
It only took 5+ years of a Trump presidency.
JFK signed the first affirmative action legislation, I don’t know when or if we can end discrimination against whites and white males, or even just males.
