The price of oil rose sharply Monday, after Iranian government-aligned media reported that the country was cutting off talks with the United States to end the ongoing war.
Conflicting comments from President Donald Trump hours later did little to dent oil’s jump, although prices ended the day somewhat lower than the highs of the morning.
U.S. crude oil closed higher by 5.5% at $92.16 per barrel. International Brent crude closed higher by 4.5% at $94.98 per barrel.
Heating oil, a proxy for jet fuel, also rose 4%, while wholesale gas prices rose 2%.
As a result of of the most recent decline in oil prices, the cost of retail gasoline was down 24 cents on Monday from this year’s peak. Still, gas prices remain higher by 44% on average than they were before the war.

Probably time to do the right thing and just take Iran off the map.
And how much will oil prices jump if Iran nukes Tel Aviv, which will happen about 1 minute after the mullahs get a nuke?
I love Trump and voted for him all 3 times.
But.
I’m beginning to think he doesn’t know what he’s doing with Iran. We’re not bombing them effectively, if we were they would be crawling to the negotiation table. They’re not. Iran controls the Strait of Hormuz. No peace in sight. No closer to shutting down their nuclear capability.
I’m not sure who else in his administration knows what they’re doing either. Meanwhile the price of gas is insane. I’m tired of his spokespeople saying everything is just dandy. It isn’t.
This is painful to say.
Up 42% from President Trump’s low gas prices. Needed to be said.
Paying the same price for gas as Inauguration Day, to kill the Ayatollah and put the American boot on the face of Islam?
Lot of moongodder simps on this thread and on this website.

Same here....three times. I voted for the man who criticized warmongering and spoke of diplomacy. I did not vote for this war.
What have we gained from it? Nothing. How much is it costing us....our nation 38 trillion in debt? Another promise was to cut spending to make America great.
“Should have let Bibi handle it, not a real estate developer.”
I’ve felt that way for about two weeks.
The War Powers Resolution and DC leftist judges make the Iranians think Trump is a toothless tiger.
No reason for them to open up the Strait of Hormuz. They can wait until the Democrats take over.
They were open before Trump let Netanyahu twist his arm into the shitshow
The cheapest price of gas I saw today here in Florida was $3.68/gallon.
Be aware the $900 billion cost of the DoD runs about $2,700/American each year.
Health care costs American residents on average each (~$5,500/year) as much as five gallons a gas a day.
The federal government spends about $18,000/American/year, or about 17 gallons worth of gas.
US consumers are paying about $30/more per barrel and the US uses about 17 million barrels a day.
That’s $510 million/day, the cost of several brand-new tankers filled with oil.
Congress could authorize Trump to use $1 billion to buy tankers stranded in the Gulf, fill them with crude, and have US Navy sailors run them through the Strait (or send them through by remote control or autopilot). A helicopter could be on each tanker in transit in case the crew needs to come off.
These transits could be timed (wind from the south) so spilt oil would wash ashore on Iranian beaches.
The steering might be locked so a flaming tanker heads towards Iran.
Congress could authorize Trump to have another 60 days if:
1. any US vessel is attacked while passing through the international waters of the Persian Gulf or the waters of Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the UAE or Oman,
2. an Iranian vessel, missile or torpedo enters the waters or airspace claimed by Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the UAE or Oman within four miles of a US vessel,
3. an Iranian vessel fails to promptly and harmlessly sail to Iranian coastal waters when signaled by US military flare.
The US tankers are unlikely to be attacked. Does anybody here think Iranian thugs want Trump to have another 60 days to whack them?
There is a way to drop oil and gas prices fast.
The tanker insurance market isn’t functioning for the Gulf. Bypass it!
Interesting to watch this Yo Yo of prices. My airline stocks go up when oil prices fall.
Or is that just a regular DNC contribution?
And talks are on again. I’m getting dizzy.

This must be part of the “fog of war” that is crucial to getting results.
If I didn’t know better, I would someone big (or a few big someones) are playing the oil market at the expense of the American people. That or Trump has no clue how to end the mess with Iran.
I disagree with your pessimistic view.
