Nebraska Secretary of State Bob Evnen (R) is projected to lose his slot as the state’s top elections official to a primary challenger, according to Decision Desk HQ.
Omaha businessman Scott Petersen won Tuesday’s Republican primary in the Cornhusker State, leading the incumbent by roughly 6 percentage points with a little over half of votes in as of 11 p.m. EDT. Evnen had notched endorsements from major names in Nebraska GOP politics, including Gov. Jim Pillen, Sens. Deb Fischer and Pete Ricketts, and all three of the state’s House lawmakers.
Now in his second term, Evnen led the state as it turned over voter rolls to the Department of Justice, part of a push from the Trump administration ahead of the midterm elections.
But Petersen had posed a challenge against Evnen from the right, touting his support for President Trump.
He accused the incumbent of not doing enough to secure Nebraska’s elections and reassure voters. He also argued for restrictions on vote-by-mail. Evnen had survived a primary challenge in his 2022 reelection bid, but emerged with a 10-point lead and sailed uncontested through that year’s November election.
Petersen is likely to win the general election in the ruby red state where Republicans have long controlled the secretary of state’s office.

Sounds like Trump is growing more as a kingmaker, am I missing something?
Also sounds like republicans are awake this time and are purging those less dedicated to MAGA.
Many pro-Trump GOP voters are in a punitive mood toward Republican leaders due to the GOP establishment’s unwillingness to back Trump on valid policy issues. With Thune and McConnell and the Senate GOP not on the ballot, the political retribution that is justly due them falls on others who are within reach of GOP voters.
More. Hakeem manifesting extreme. Maximum warfare.
Is it that a politician isn’t “Pro Trump” enough or is it that some of them are spitefully “anti Trump” for no good reason?
At least he has his mash potato business to fall back on
I’m not sure of the significance of this Nebraska election. I have old old friends in Lincoln and would loke to hear from a FR from there. Been there many times.retitred from Offutt AFB.
I didn’t see in the article if Trump officially had endorsed Petersen. But if he was clear that he supported Trump, and Evnen didn’t — AND was loosey-goosey with elections, then it sounds like a big win for GOP.
From Duck Duck Go:
Trump’s Endorsement for Nebraska Secretary of State
Donald Trump endorsed Scott Petersen for the position of Nebraska Secretary of State.
Key Points about Scott Petersen
Background: Scott Petersen is a business owner and a conservative leader.
Campaign Focus:
Emphasizes secure and transparent elections.
Aims to restore confidence in government operations.
Plans to modernize and streamline business services in Nebraska.
Trump’s Endorsement Significance
This endorsement highlights Trump’s continued influence within the Republican Party in Nebraska.
Petersen’s campaign is centered on accountability and efficient governance, aligning with Trump’s America First principles.
MAGA Republicans are direct of GOPE Republicans acting like assistant Democratas, and have the numbers and are primarying them. Plain and simple.
Thanks! Interesting that it wasn’t included in the article itself. Seems more than relevant.
Was he a RINO who was anti-Trump? Any other RINOs get removed??
“”””And Evnen has said he would like to see voter ID implemented nationally, and he said he would like to see more efforts to ensure noncitizens aren’t voting. But he said earlier this year that, “we don’t need to nationalize elections.” Trump has pressed Congress to pass the SAVE America Act, which would, in effect, “nationalize” elections that are run at the state level.”””
Appears that Evnen was weak regarding the SAVE ACT.
Also, let us never forget the Warren Buffett is headquartered in Omaha, NEB.
Neither. People want a true, fair vote (80+% support SAVE act, across parties and regions and races). Trump supports a true, fair vote.
Politicians like grift and graft and guaranteed results and backroom deals, so they either fail to advance or vote against a true, fair vote.
When we remove these politicians, because the MSM gets paid out of grift, graft, etc. they don’t report “useless politicians who hate their constituents were voted out” but “Trump Trump Trump” in accordance with the myth that people are in a cult of personality rather than having actual real thoughts.
As I see it, he was pretending to be conservative to get a third term. But my guess is he was the type that would bend over backwards to get Don Bacon types elected, by not looking into election chicanery, etc.
As to other RINOS, in West Virginia, several committee chairs and the deputy whip were removed.
Evnen wasn't the only one then. Donald Trump endorsed RINO Don Bacon in 2018. And 2020. And 2022. And 2024.
But Bacon at least didn't vote to impeach Trump when that came up for a vote. So there's that.
Safely on his way out the door (after announcing he would run away rather than lose in 2026), Bacon DID say he would impeach Trump -- if Trump invaded Greenland. LOL.
