Supreme Court Clears Way for Alabama to Adopt New House Map That Removes Majority-Black District

The U.S. Supreme Court late on May 11 cleared the way for Alabama to redraw its congressional election map to comply with the court’s landmark ruling limiting the use of race in redistricting. The court’s new decision took the form of a brief, unsigned order.

The Supreme Court vacated lower court rulings that required Alabama to use a congressional map that included two majority-black districts out of the state’s seven districts.

Alabama and several other GOP-led states are currently in the process of an unusual mid-decade redistricting they hope will help Republicans retain control of the U.S. House of Representatives in the November elections.

There are some conservative blacks who just might escape from the democRATs/DemoKKKrats plantation and get elected.

Not because of race.

What a concept!

Racist democRATs/DemoKKKrats cannot STAND such “uppity” blacks.

How dare you!

Florida will likely elect a black republican for governor this November.

My GOP state senator is black.

I’m over the last 60 years of racial garbage.

Map after map, the “minorities” disagreed with because it didn’t turn them into “majorities”.

“The Supreme Court on Monday afternoon cleared the way for Alabama to use a congressional map that a lower court had blocked on the ground that it violated Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, which prohibits racial discrimination in voting. The justices threw out the lower-court order barring Alabama from using the map, which it had adopted in 2023, and sent the dispute back to the lower court for another look.

Justice Sonia Sotomayor dissented from Monday’s decision, in a four-page opinion joined by Justices Elena Kagan and Ketanji Brown Jackson. In her view, the court’s order was “inappropriate and will cause only confusion as Alabamians begin to vote in the elections scheduled for next week.”

The dispute began five years ago, when Alabama enacted a new congressional map in the wake of the 2020 census. A group of Black voters and civil rights organizations went to federal court, where they alleged that the new map violated Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, because it spread Black voters in southern Alabama across three congressional districts, leaving them a minority in each.

The district court agreed that the 2021 map likely violated Section 2, and it barred the state from using the map. The Supreme Court upheld that decision in 2023 in Allen v. Milligan.

Later that year, Alabama adopted a new map. But a federal court concluded that the 2023 map also likely violated Section 2 and prohibited the state from using it. The Supreme Court declined to pause the lower court’s ruling.

A court-appointed special master ultimately created a new map, which the district court ordered the state to use going forward. In 2025, the court ruled after a trial that the 2023 map did indeed violate the VRA. It reasoned that the map was “an intentional effort to dilute Black Alabamians’ voting strength and evade the unambiguous requirements of court orders standing in the way.””

Several Black districts may be gerrymandered out of existence around the country. I’m all for that.
Our gerrymandering is better than their gerrymandering.
The proof is in the Congress.

I’ve always cringed upon hearing the media refer to one district or another as a “black” district.

The best way to do away with racism is to stop discriminating.

But Dems still pontificate like it’s 1958 and there are police with German Shepards and firehoses in the streets keeping black people away.

At that time the Democrats (led by Dixiecrat faction) were fighting against black people having the right to vote or use restaurants, hotels and public transportation before the passage of Civil Rights laws. KKK members like this famous one:

Robert C. Byrd (D-WV), the longest-serving U.S. senator in history (1959–2010), was a Ku Klux Klan member since the early 1940s. Despite this, he was highly revered by Democratic leaders later in his career, with Joe Biden delivering a eulogy, calling him a mentor.

As a young man, Byrd was an “Exalted Cyclops” in the Klan and recruiter for a local KKK chapter.

He apologized for his past actions and votes during his 51 years in the US Senate including a 1964 filibuster against the Civil Rights Act.

In all the news that is ironic.

The current officeholder of this majority black district is white. There is a good chance that after redistricting a majority white district will elect a black man. Of course he will lose his black card if he wins as a Republican.

Those black .districts were textbook gerrymandering.
There’s one in NC that’s particularly creative in the way it connects disparate communities across several counties.

This directly affects me. I live literally 100 yards inside the lines of Alabama Congressional District 2, a federal judge mandated democrat (black) district. This is great news.

“This can only be interpreted as a slap in the face.”

If it’s interpreted as a slap in the face by blacks who want race-based, unconstitutional preferential treatment, or by any leftists who wanted keep the leftist vote coming from their race-based gerrymandered districts, you can’t imagine how little that bothers me.
