Days before the White House Correspondents' Dinner shooting, Kimmel said during a late-night monologue that the first lady had "a glow like an expectant widow."
President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump are taking aim at late-night television host Jimmy Kimmel over a joke he made about the first lady looking like an "expectant widow," days before the shooting incident at the White House Correspondents' Dinner on Saturday.
In a fiery statement Monday on social media, President Trump criticized Kimmel's joke and called on Disney — which owns ABC and airs the "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" show — to fire the host.
"He showed a fake video of the First Lady, Melania, and our son, Barron, like they were actually sitting in his studio, listening to him speak, which they weren’t, and never would be. He then stated, 'Our First Lady, Melania, is here. Look at Melania, so beautiful. Mrs. Trump, you have a glow like an expectant widow,'" Trump said on his Truth Social platform. "A day later a lunatic tried entering the ballroom of the White House Correspondents Dinner, loaded up with a shotgun, handgun, and many knives. He was there for a very obvious and sinister reason."
Earlier in the day, First Lady Melania Trump called Kimmel "a coward," and also urged ABC to "take a stand" against the comedian.
"Kimmel’s hateful and violent rhetoric is intended to divide our country," Trump said. "His monologue about my family isn’t comedy- his words are corrosive and deepens the political sickness within America. People like Kimmel shouldn’t have the opportunity to enter our homes each evening to spread hate. A coward, Kimmel hides behind ABC because he knows the network will keep running cover to protect him. Enough is enough."
Kimmel made the joke two days before a gunman attempted to breach the ballroom where President Trump and the first lady were joined by more than 2,400 other guests to celebrate the First Amendment and the White House press. The suspect was charged Monday with attempted assassination.
However, It's not the first time Kimmel and ABC have faced criticism from high-ranking political figures. Last year, President Trump repeatedly blasted Kimmel over controversial remarks he made following the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The comedian was then briefly suspended from hosting his show in September but returned a week later.
Trump has also taken aim at other late-night comedians over jokes he doesn't approve of. Earlier this year, he threatened to sue "The Daily Show" host Trevor Noah over a joke he made referencing Trump and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
The president and the first lady have repeatedly sought to distance themselves from Epstein. Both have also denied having ever visiting the disgraced financier's island, where prosecutors say he trafficked and sexually abused underage girls.

Stop giving this loser attention.
Ignore him.
I don’t think the government should be trying to get him fired, but I agree with POTUS and FLOTUS. Kimmel’s hateful so-called “joke” was offensive, over the line, and maybe contributing to violence.
If he said that on Twitter (X), Facebook, or any other social media platform (other than possibly Bluesky or DU), he’d get kicked off or at lesat suspended for a long time — and he should. ABC absolutely needs to remove his show from the air for at least a while, or we can only conclude that ABC finds this acceptable.
It wasnt a joke, because a joke at least is supposed to make sense, it made ZERO sense calling Melania an “Expectant widow” unless he had prior knowledge that she might be becoming one
Kimmel should be investigated for prior knowledge.
In addition, ABC should be forced to air episodes of “The Man Show” in his timeslot so people can see who he really is.
Firing TV comedians and news reporters along with radio DJ’s used to be common sixty years ago.
I still remember when Dick Biondi was fired from WLS for telling on air a bawdy one line joke about girl’s mini skirts.
Today such a joke would not be a problem for late night.
Isn’t his contract up pretty soon?
He shouldn't make any public statements because it just drives people to watch the monologue, but they shouldn't ignore him. They need to find out how he had prior knowledge, then make arrests.
The Tonight Show was the pinnacle of T.V. entertainment. From Carson to Leno. Then obama called his pals at NBC and told them to fire Jay because he words were hurtful. No, they were funny and those were the same words for other presidents like Clinton and Bush. Now the show is a joke. Everything woke touches it destroys.
Where did you hear that? I never heard Obama was involved.
Revoke ABCs broadcast license
Carson may have been a Democrat, but I don’t think that was reflected in his joke selection. I thought he was equal in jokes against Democrats, Republicans, etc.
This article is still making light of the fact, that most of these liberals want President Trump dead because they don’t agree with him.
Remember when jokes were supposed to be funny????
he either had some knowledge - or more likely, he is living inside a bubble that spends a lot of time convincing themselves that Trump is in very poor health - to the point of being on deaths door. Either way he seriously needs to be fired for this.
Agree. The more Trump attacks Kimmel, the more job security Kimmel has and the more Kimmel can go on TV and say that he is standing up to Trump. Trump needs to stay quiet about Kimmel.
It says he was the first U.S. DJ to play the Beatles in February 1963.
Then there was that time Jackie Mason was banned forever from The Ed Sullivan Show for supposedly giving Ed the middle finger.
The ONLY reason for him to say it was because he knew there was a possibly to of Melania becoming one. I mean its a weird “joke” to make about someone who is obviously NOT a widow. If he wanted to say Trump jokes fine, I really dont care, but he has to explain why he made this particular comment because the joke first of all isnt even funny and secondly makes no sense unless there is a pretext of him knowing that something MAY happen at the White House Correspondents Dinner..because notice, he had a pretend podium of the dinner and images of Barron and Melania there(Even though Barron did not attend)
Most likely an AI deep fake, which I think is illegal to do for a minor.
