Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee are demanding that FBI Director Kash Patel fill out a screening test used to assess “harmful patterns of alcohol consumption and routinely used by individuals to help identify hazardous drinking behaviors,” following allegations published in an Atlantic article.
In a letter to Patel on Tuesday, ranking member Jamie Raskin, D-Md., and more than a dozen other Democrats suggested the alleged behavior could harm U.S. national security.
Some of the screening questions, attached to the letter, ask “How many drinks containing alcohol do you have on a typical day when you are drinking,” “How often during the last year have you failed to do what was normally expected from you because of drinking,” and “How often during the last year have you been unable to remember what happened the night before because you had been drinking?”
The Democrats also ask that Patel fill out a sworn statement that his answers are true, under penalty of perjury.
Citing the Atlantic report about Patel’s alleged excessive drinking and unexplained absences at the agency, Raskin wrote, “it is no surprise that your purported drinking habits and erratic schedule have had demonstrably disastrous effects on your performance of duties as FBI Director.”
Raskin told Patel that the Atlantic report about his drinking created serious concerns.
“Your inability to control your impulses has reportedly undermined high-stakes criminal investigations.”
*** Patel disclosed a decades-old arrest during a college basketball game. He was arrested in 2001 on charges of misdemeanor public intoxication by police in Richmond, Virginia.***
Last week, The Atlantic reported that Patel “frantically” called aides and allies on April 10 after he was unable to log into an internal computer system and believed he had been fired. The Atlantic story cited nine people familiar with Patel’s outreach.

Hey ‘Rats - pound sand.
The classic, “When did you stop beating your wife”? Question.
That’s not fair. At least wait until after the Stanley Cup.
Kash..”you first”
Give the test to the Senators. It would be off the charts. Too bad Teddy Kennedy is dead as he would be at the top of the charts.
What a bunch of jerks!
Answer, right after all you elected officials publicly disclose x, y, and z...
Same for Nancy!
Geesh, Pelosi was well known for a huge alcohol bill flying on military aircraft between DC and Calipornia.
She was never asked to prove any sobriety on her part.
Though people knew full well the old sot was sloshed quite often.
So the form would be for the purpose of calling him a liar. There was a clip of him partying...not exactly a business meeting with FBI members.
He must be doing a good job...they really want him out. I've heard him speak before Congress...he really nailed the Dems.
Pelosi agrees.
Well, stereotype is that Indians can’t hold their firewarter.
As long as every Democrat asking Patel to do this fills out and publishes that very same screening test for themselves, I’m fine with this.
Should all Senators and Members of Congress, and their staffs, take a compressive drug screen immediately preceding each and every vote and at least once per week if there are no votes cast?
Should they also publish a list, updated monthly, of each and every pharmaceutical product prescribed for them?
And, since their idea for Director Patel has potential merit, and for good measure, how about they all complete the alcohol screening test form, just for starters?
“...What a bunch of jerks!...”
Whadda bunch of communists...and jerks too. Spit.
They can start first with all of congress and the governors submitting to a drug and alcohol tests.
That test should be required of every elected official in the government...
Just as soon as Nancy and you all do....and a mental acuity test for pelosi and mcconnel
Nancy first.
