At least 16 people have been injured after an ex-student opened fire at a high school in south-eastern Turkey.
The attacker, who was in his late teens, fired "indiscriminately with a shotgun" before killing himself with the weapon after being "cornered by police", local governor Hasan Şildak said.
Those injured include 10 students, four teachers, a cafeteria worker and a police officer, he said.
The incident happened at around 09:30 local time (06:30 GMT) at the Ahmet Koyuncu Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in Siverek district. It has since been evacuated.
The wounded were taken to hospital, with five later transferred to other facilities for further treatment.
The motive for the attack is not yet known and an investigation has been launched.

Horrible. Prayers up for the victims and their loved ones.
So they have Trannies in Turkey?
It surprises me that this does not happen more often in Turkey. The country is a real contradiction. It tried so hard for decades to throw off the backward, Islamic old ways and become European and that largely happened in Istanbul, which basically is a European city. But the hinterlands reverted back to being fundamentalist. That’s how Erdogan maintains his power. The tension keeps building and when that type of tension builds, some nutcase is bound to start shooting up a high school like this.
Yes been to western Turkey and Istanbul several times. Great food! If I didn’t already know better as far as local culture and behavior goes they’re European. Very Greek like though I would never tell either one that. Worked with them and found them to be very likable. I was in Ankara once but that was pre-Erdogan, it was a European city.
I’m surprised no one attempted to stop him when he was reloading.
Why do we care what’s going on in Turkey?
This is impossible because only America has school shootings.
Impossible. MSM says the US is the only country in the world where this happens. It’s why we all need to turn over our guns.
I had a blonde, blue-eyed American friend who grew up in Saudi Arabia. She went to school with diplomat kids - but she said even about town: she never felt unsafe. Doors were left unlocked because the punishments for crimes — even petty ones — were so severe and acted as deterrent. Turkey is not Arabia but still…
Maybe he was mad they changed the spelling of Turkey.
I’m surprised there were no fatalities. Bird shot loads, I guess...
I think the reason disturbed people shoot up schools, sometimes years after they left that environment, has to do with their failure to mature and move on. My existence the last year of high school was miserable, because I was academically unchallenged, I was knocked unconscious twice during riots, and twice I had to run for my life. Still, once I left, I didn’t spare the past one thought. Why? My life was going someplace.
Look at the school shooters and they are typically unemployed, living at home, and stagnated in maturity. It must be even worse in Turkey which has a huge unemployment rate and little if any social mobility for a majority of teenagers. Throw in normal teenage angst, hormones and a Muslim upbringing and they want to die. But they want revenge too. Hey, what a great thing to combine, revenge and dying. Sort of solves everything.
Good question. Turkiye (new official Islamic throwback spelling) is a NATO partner like Lisa Murkowski is a Republican. We've got at least 20 nukes there so they have to be kept an eye on.
“Impossible. MSM says the US is the only country in the world where this happens...”
Agreed. I was thinking the same thing.
I was just at a friend’s wedding in Istanbul last summer. I love the city and would go there more if I could. I have traveled to the interior of Turkey - it has wonderful history - but would hesitate to do so now. Turkey is the reverse of the US. Its cities maintain a bubble of Western liberalism that ultimately will be overwhelmed by the conservative, Islamic rural areas in the long run. I will hate to see that happen but if things continue on the current track, it will.
But the hinterlands reverted back to being fundamentalist.

During my time in the prison province of Sinope in the late 60s, it was evident that the rural areas never changed culturally from the 14th century; they were always fundamentalist.
Great food! If I didn’t already know better as far as local culture and behavior goes they’re European.

Not in the rural areas. You always had to check the restaurant’s kitchen and do a fly count. Avoid the dish with the most flies.
Possibly. It may be that the only environment they know outside of their sociopathic family is an indifferent school environment.
They had already written off their dysfunctional parent/s, and crash out because they hoped to find answers and help from others but didn't.
Family doesn't care about them and classmates may not either; due to maturity level or dealing with their own issues. The teachers, with the exception of a very few, range from apathetic to contributors.
When we grew up and went to school
There were certain teachers who
Would hurt the children in any way they could
By pouring their derision upon anything we did
Exposing every weakness
However carefully hidden by the kid
But in the town it was well known
When they got home at night
Their fat and psychopathic wives would thrash them
Within inches of their lives

Turkey’s prison in Sinope still practiced medieval punishments in the late 60s. Get caught pickpocketing = get thumbs screws that flatten all fingers on both hands for the first offense; second offense = lose the right hand [ considered the ‘clean hand,’ since rural Turks wipe with their left hand ]; third offense = the other hand. At the time the now closed prison had a life expectancy of 7 years, mostly due to the open courtyard where most of the prisoners where housed - the lucky ones with money got cells.
