Tony Gonzales to resign from Congress, avoiding expulsion vote over sexual misconduct allegations

U.S. Rep. Tony Gonzales announced on Monday he would resign from Congress, avoiding an expected vote on his expulsion after he admitted to having an affair with a staffer.

Gonzales, a Republican from San Antonio, has faced intensifying scrutiny in recent months after the San Antonio Express-News first revealed evidence that he engaged in a sexual relationship with a staffer who later died by suicide, prompting a House Ethics Committee review and calls from colleagues for him to step down. Pressure further mounted when another aide came forward, saying Gonzales pressed her for nude photos and sex during his first run for Congress in 2020.

The third-term lawmaker said he would step aside minutes after U.S. Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., who is facing numerous allegations of assault from staffers, announced he would relinquish his seat in the House. Both men were set to face expulsion votes this week over alleged sexual misconduct.

Good. He should have resigned weeks ago.

Wow. When did sexual misconduct not enhance a Democrat’s career?

“Engaged in a sexual relationship” and even “pressed for sex” (Gonzolez) is different from “raped multiple women” (Swalwell).

And I’m supposed to be upset about some stupid Tweet. If that’s the worst thing Trump does, he’s still better than 99.9% of all politicians out there.

It just means the Democrats have someone even worse ready to take their place.

Two turds with one stone. I want to know if tax payer money was paid out from Congress’s slush/hush fund for sexual complaints against either of these a-holes.

Democrats: 100% guaranteed to win the special election to replace Swalwell.

Republicans: NOT guaranteed to win the special election to replace Gonzales. Though if Herrera is the candidate he should, and will, be favored.

It’s only an R+4 district; the GOP has been underperforming WAY more than that in the vast majority of special elections in 2025-26, a fact which is willfully ignored by most ostriches.

“ Wow. When did sexual misconduct not enhance a Democrat’s career?”

When his polling is so bad that the Republican might win

In the private sector we learned in 1990 that sexual contact with a subordinate is absolutely prohibited. there are plenty of bars with eager Bea**rs. If you are attractive, go find a hookup on a level playing field. Don’t take advantage of your power to get laid. If you are old and corpulent go to las vegas I guess. we don’t want our daughters to face pressure from creeps. OTOH off the premises, their behavior is their fault. Don’t fish in the company pond.

Thanks! I doubt we'll ever get to know for what, who or how much.

“When did sexual misconduct not enhance a Democrat’s career?”

When they’re about to run in the California governor’s race and very possibly allow a Republican to win. That’s it. There are no coincidences.

Lesson for the weakling GOP.

The Dems wanted to get rid of Swalwell so they could pack together the other candidates’ voters.

Got him out.

AND....

They demanded another scalp from a GOP loser and got that one, too.
