The Job of Attorney General Is Not What We Think It Is
American Thinker ^ | 04/04/2026 | John F. Di Leo

In her one short year on the job, Pam Bondi has been very successful in many ways.

And all this was accomplished while doing the usual job of a federal A.G.: staffing the U.S. attorneys’ offices, finding and supporting new judges for federal vacancies, and similar “ordinary” tasks.

That’s just in one year.

Granted, we had reasons to be dissatisfied, too:

These are legitimate questions, but they all point to a reality that perhaps the American public — especially the conservative movement — has not accepted, even if we know it in our hearts.

Thank you very much and God bless you.

We think of the Attorney General as “America’s top prosecutor.” It’s been the popularly accepted nickname for the office for generations. But is it really the right way to look at the job?

We look at the position as a federal version of the state-level attorney general, and of the county-level district attorney. But the federal attorney general isn’t that narrowly focused a role anymore. It hasn’t been for generations.

In addition to those two obvious jobs — the vetting and selection of potential judges for a president to nominate as vacancies arise, and the appointment and operation of the U.S. attorneys in the 94 districts — there are tons of other responsibilities in this office that bear only the most tangential similarity to those county and statewide offices of similar names.

Not a word about Epstein. Just a bunch of excuses
about why she was a failure

The binder episode barely a month in…

But wasn’t she just following orders?

And even without baggage, Matt Gaetz I think would have ended up ending his term early too. He is a commentator now and disagrees with a lot of Trump’s policies from Iran to some domestic stuff I believe.

Gaetz has a huge ego & loves the limelight too much. As AG, he would have been butting heads with Trump immediately IMO.

There’s another area in which Justice is unique. In most Cabinet departments, the lion’s share of the staff is non-political; once you replace the political appointees at the top with new blood, the rest of the staff will follow the new administration’s orders.

It’s not like that at Justice...

A new Democrat attorney general can walk into that office confident that 80% or more of that department’s bureaucracy is on his side already. A Republican attorney general walks in knowing that he will be fought tooth and nail as reforms are attempted, every step of the way.

The most pernicious thing that such a person could do would be if the US Attorney of a district resigns his office in protest. This wll cause a vacancy that the Democrats have already weaponized five times against the Trump administration.

By failing to confirm any new US Attorney to fill the vacancy, Democrats in the Senate are forcing President Trump to appoint interim US Attorneys who can hold their offices for only 120 days before the must leave. This means that no US Attorneys will remain in office long enough to prosecute any cases in these districts.

Consider these examples so far of US Attorneys that have been disqualifed by district court judges:

  1. Alina Habba - District of New Jersey. Prosecution of LaMonica McIver for assault at an ICE facility dismissed.

  2. Sigal Chattah - District of Nevada. Impacted first ever Public Corruption Strike Force to investigate bribery of public officials, election crimes, and government integrity violations.

  3. Bill Essayli - Central District of California. Blocked announced sanctuary city obstruction prosecutions under 8 U.S.C. § 1324 to charge elected officials who interfered with immigration arrests.

  4. Lindsey Halligan - Eastern District of Virginia. Prosecution of James Comey for perjury dismissed.

  5. John Sarcone III - Northern District of New York. Prosecution of Letitia James for mortgage fraud dismissed.

As you can see, this isn't a case of Bondi failing, it's a coordinated strategy by the Democrats to protect Democrats from prosecution.

I never thought Bondi was a bad AG. I thought expectations of her were somewhat unrealistic. I don’t believe she suddenly decided to underperform. Maybe Trump did her a favor. For me, this Epstein business is kind of a sideshow with everything else that’s going on. I wish her well.

What did Trump think Bondi could do; could she “fire” the judges that have been blocking her at so many points?? If Trump thinks she could have made better legal arguments that would not have been blocked then he’s only kidding himself - no matter what he does the Left-Dim-Progressive judges will step in and block no matter the legal argument his DOJ makes.

Matt Whitaker has proven his resolve. He may be the dark horse in this race.

Some believe she will be used in a job more dangerous to the democrats than er tenure as AG.
