President Trump says he's considering withdrawing the U.S. from NATO, after years of complaining the alliance's member countries aren't paying enough for their own defense. And since he began the war with Iran, the president has been lashing out about the lack of support from NATO allies.
A law passed by Congress in 2023 — and spearheaded in part by Marco Rubio, now the secretary of state — bars the president from doing so without approval from the legislative branch. The existence of that law may not stop Mr. Trump from trying to pull the U.S. out of the 77-year-old alliance.

Rubio acknowledged that as a senator, he was a staunch supporter of NATO. But he argued that if the U.S. is unable to use military bases in Europe during its war with Iran, then U.S. membership is going to have to be reconsidered.
"After this conflict is concluded, we are going to have to reexamine that relationship," Rubio said. "We're going to have to reexamine the value of NATO and that alliance for our country. Ultimately, that's a decision for the president to make, and he'll have to make it."

An example of why ‘no kings’ right there.
Unfortunately, Republicans control both houses of Congress. So there is no way in hell that they will approve anything Trump asks for.
He doesn’t need congress to pull all American troops out of Europe.
POTUS can pull troops out of any country anytime he wants.
When the headline is an editorial opinion you know it’s propaganda.
“POTUS can pull troops out of any country anytime he wants.”
And put a good number of them in Greenland.
I’m sure a Federal Judge will stop that move. Maybe we get a Judge to issue an injunction to keep attacking Iran….. 😂😂😂😂😂
“He doesn’t need congress to pull all American troops out of Europe.”

That would depend upon what our various treaties with the hosting countries say. Treaties have the full force and effect of law, so a president’s Constitutional obligation and oath is to faithfully execute the laws of the nation.
The law exists because the last thing you’d want is, a President with a historically low approval rating, starting a potential world war, while simultaneously trying to remove us from our primary defensive alliance.
Your post is hilarious. Do you write comedy.
Just keep one administrator in place, or better yet, send over a crisis counselor that they use in lieu of police.
“He doesn’t need congress to pull all American troops out of Europe.”
100% troop withdrawal out of Europe is not the same thing as NATO membership coming to an end.
Pure Trump opening bid. Let the negotiations begin.
What makes Congress so authoritative. They have a single digit approval rating. The former leader is the champion of illegal insider trading in punishable in Congress for some reason
Trump hasn’t really won a battle against Congress in a 10 years. He won’t get out of NATO but he can destroy it simply by being public about the idea that he will not spend blood and treasure to fight Europe’s battles. He should absolutely do that. Useless alliance now.
It’s a start.
Trump on foreign policy has been absolutely brilliant. Anything that requires the other branches has been an utter disappointment. The courts are rigged and the Congress is corrupt.
Trump can rightly remove troops out of Europe. I wish he would.
“But he argued that if the U.S. is unable to use military bases in Europe during its war with Iran, then U.S. membership is going to have to be reconsidered.”
NATO was never a pact where a member nation could use the bases of other member nation’s bases to launch sneak attacks or wars of aggression. That very concept is why we aren’t allowing Ukraine to launch attacks inside Russia from Poland or something.
It’s pretty brassy to launch the war without them being looped in, and expect their participation after the fact.
