Major Bay Area tech company Oracle reportedly axed thousands of jobs in a massive layoff Tuesday, notifying fired employees they were jobless in an email sent at 6 a.m..

The email from one of the world’s largest software companies, chaired by billionaire Larry Ellison, informed employees across multiple regions that Tuesday would be their last day at the company.

“After careful consideration of Oracle’s current business needs, we have made the decision to eliminate your role as part of a broader organizational change,” copies of the email viewed by Business Insider stated.

“As a result, today is your last working day. … Thank you for your contributions to our organization.”

The email also asked employees to provide their personal email addresses for future correspondence.

The terminated employees were told that after signing their termination paperwork they would be “eligible to receive a severance package subject to the terms and conditions of the severance plan.”

Employees in the US, India, Canada and other regions reported getting the news that was from “Oracle Leadership,” per RollingOut.

Two people familiar with the matter confirmed to CNBC that the layoffs involved thousands of jobs.

Oracle told The California Post that it would decline comment when asked about how many jobs were being cut.

As of May 2025, the software company employed around 162,0000 full-time employees, according to its annual filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Incredible. I wonder if it being based in CA had anything to do with it.

Amazon just spiked 19,000 jobs, and other tech firms are expected to downsize significantly.

So much for learning to code.

Looks like the predicted recession will arrive right on time for the midterms, with stagflation as its partner.

Bad times ahead.

If only government could do some right sizing.

This why I stopped giving 2 weeks notice 20 years ago. I just say bye and leave.

If you want to see the rolling impact of tech layoffs, here’s a list that begins on January 1, 2026. It’ll get lots longer in the next couple of months, and we’ll start getting 1st quarter financial reports next week.

Yep, my last employer asked me to give 12 weeks I did and 4 weeks in , they already found my replacement. I told them they had to continue my job or pay me severance or it would termination and I’d file for unemployment. They paid it.

Yeah, government should “right size” all the departments that I don’t personally use or see a need for:

I’m a veteran, but don’t use or need VA health services. Let’s scrap it!

I don’t personally use anything from the Department of Agriculture, so let’s dump that one too!

My city is a low crime area, so let’s scrap the Byrne Grants and all the unnecessary federal assistance to law enforcement.

See how easy this is? I could go on for hours.

12 weeks (3 months) sheesh. That is about how long it takes Amazon to fill a senior dev role.

Isn’t this the guy who just said his company’s AI will ‘keep people in line, acting civilly’ as they are now ‘monitoring and reporting the moves of millions’?

Something to that effect.

Maybe I have the wrong AI/tech guy in mind.

You were the best You’re fired Get out

You were the best of the best and critical for our mission until yesterday at 5:00pm local time.

Unfortunately, needs of the business have changed and as of 5:01pm local time yesterday you are deadwood and will be considered trespassing if you appear on any company property.

Thank you for your dedicated service and cooperation during this difficult time.

They issued around 5 million + H1B visas over the last 10 years. Nobody knows how many have actually gone home.
