Iran was “unsuccessful” in targeting the joint UK-US Indian Ocean military base at Diego Garcia, a UK official source confirmed on Saturday, a day after the Wall Street Journal reported Tehran fired two ballistic missiles at the base but failed to hit it.
The Iranian attack on the Diego Garcia air base — located about 2,500 miles (4,000 kilometers) from Iran — indicated Tehran has in its stockpile missiles that can travel much further than it had previously acknowledged.
Missiles of that range would put most of Western Europe in range of Iran’s missile arsenal.
Iran has until now said it had a self-imposed limit on its ballistic missile program, limiting their range to 2,000 kilometers (1,240 miles). However, US officials long have alleged Iran’s space program could allow it to build intercontinental ballistic missiles.

I wonder how close they got? Of course, if you are shooting that over Europe it’s going to be”land” that it hits—no matter if its close or not.
I cannot imagine it is easy to hide one of these big things. And, launchers must stand out like a sore thumb. I’m betting the launchers are all “one time use.”
When I was a kid we use to stomp used tin cans in the ground and then drop a lit fire cracker, M80, or Cherry Bomb down a hole in the top of the can. When it went off the can flew half way to the sun before falling back to earth heaven only knows where. That pretty much shows that we American children invented the missiles Iran is now using.
We should not underestimate our enemies. Iran has good engineers. They do not have 90 years of long range missile experience and knowhow in the “wet-ware”, but they were learning fast.
There weapons look bad only because our defenses and offensive and defensive weapons, tactics, and experience are so good.

Here is what I pinged on a previous post: The USS Tripoli will arrive tomorrow, if it is not there already, and offer the first use of the “Iron Dome” system for missile defense. This is a strategic shift for patrolling the Strait and Persian Gulf. Also, the Tripoli is transporting the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), and about 3000 Marines are either there or about to be there. I believe the mission has changed and they will attack the Greater Tunb Island, where Iran is directing all of the their Persian Gulf attacks with Fast Boats, Drones, and Missiles. It has not been attacked so far because the UAE Claims ownership and asked the US to not bomb it. However, things have changed since Iran launched more than 2000 missiles and drones against the UAE, and the UAE has closed the Iranian Embassy and broken off diplomatic relations. I suspect that when you see the Americans bombing massively on the two Islands Great and Less Tunbs, then the Marines will secure those two Islands. Checkmate! The Strait will reopen sooner than expected. Everything else is diversion.

And from what I’ve read, they’ve been working on even longer-range missiles that could reach the U.S., which is part of why we’re doing what we’re doing.
If the missile reached Diego Garcia area, but missed, imagine them firing nukes and missing.
I have yet to see a single report at how far these missiles went. They never said it reached the area.
I took a shot with my Daisy at a squirrel on a high branch once. I saw the BB arc down into the fence line far below it.
