Europe always wants the US to come and back them up when they have trouble. Ukraine gets hot? Call the US, we’ll be there.
The US would like some back up from Europe when there is trouble with Iran. Europe says Not us. You’re on your own.

I really wish Trump would reply something like “OK, it sounds like you don’t want oil and gas. Well, after we control Hormuz, that’s exactly how much you’re going to get”.
If you negotiate in good faith, you will move to a common ground that includes positive consequences for you. It's give and take. It's negotiation. You win some and lose some, but in the end, you come to see the reality of a situation.
