Scouting America, the organization previously known as the Boy Scouts of America, has agreed to make several changes, according to Secretary of War Pete Hegseth.
The group is under pressure from the U.S. Department of War, which has threatened to yank its support.
In a video message issued Friday, Hegseth said he had been "very seriously considering ending our support of scouting altogether," accusing the group of adopting "radical, woke ideology."
But he said the organization has agreed to implement changes, mentioning five, while indicating there were more.
First, Scouting America has agreed to comply immediately with the provisions of Executive Order 14173. This includes reviewing and replacing politicized, divisive, and discriminatory language throughout the organization, programs, and all publications. No more DEI, zero," he declared.
He said that a DEI-related merit badge has been discontinued.
"Third, Scouting America will modify its policy to make clear that membership will be based solely on biological sex at birth and not gender identity," he said.
"That means that the application, any application, will have only two sex designations, male and female, and the application must match the applicant's birth certificate. Scouting will also make clear that biological boys and girls will not be allowed to occupy or share intimate spaces together. Toilets, showers, tents, anywhere like that.

Everything will need to be monitored on an ongoing basis—or they will cheat.

Pete’s had a busy day. First he laid down the law to Scouting, then he s#itcanned the Ivy League.
It isn't that I dislike females, far from it. It is just that I see value in something that allows boys to function in a space separate from female influence, in the presence of other males, both Scoutmasters and peers.
I don't have anything against femininity. But I believe allowing females is one more factor that has resulted in a feminization of boys.
Here are images from an International "Scouting Jamboree" in Korea back in 2023 that kind of make me think that:

Stuffed animals? Anyone bringing a stuffed animal to any scouting event would have been roundly ridiculed when I was in Scouts)
(I completely dislike this heart symbol formed with the hands when I see men do it. It seems feminized. I don't mind that women do it. I am just suspicious of any male I see doing it.)

I suspect there are many women who would get defensive at my descriptions and characterize me as a misogynist. Nothing could be further from the truth.
I just feel that the teen years for boys are a time where boys have to navigate it and begin the process of learning how to be a man, and how to fit into a rapidly approaching work career and society in general.
And I think that process is quite different for boys than it is for girls.
Everyone who has been a boy or been around boys knows that when only boys are present in a group, the dynamic is completely different. It is all about how to fit in, do your part, lift your weight, and be part of the team.
But the introduction of females changes that, and boys begin thinking more about how to impress the girl(s) or whatever else having a girl around might bring.
Sure. I might be an old fossil now. I can accept that.
That said, I would rejoice at anything that brings Scouting back to its roots, but I don't think this mandate by the DoW is going to be it.

Scouting roots are in England and Scouting there is now coed, and there are more girls than boys as Scouts
Girl Guides is females but smaller org
And military members should do the same.
And get rid of the poofters while you’re at it.

Sure. I know the history of Scouting, and I like it. My objections don’t have anything specifically to do with Scouting in England and what that has to do with Scouting in America, except as a cautionary tale, but we are already coed in America as well.
It has to do with the dynamics of young boys on their journey to becoming men, and how Scouts had value once in helping them do that. It certainly helped me.
Boys don’t like to compete against girls in general, and when the competition becomes elevated, men tend to withdraw or migrate to activities where they don’t have to compete against girls, which is partially what is happening in Scouting as the female members increase relative to males. (that is my opinion and observation, I don’t present that as factual, because I don’t know if it is)
It isn’t that boys dislike girls-far from it. Most boys (at least the ones I knew) could barely go five minutes without having thoughts of them entering their minds. And at that age, from 13 to 18, I was no different.
I have always felt that one of the value-added things Scouting provided was an environment where those feelings could be sublimated for a while.
This isn’t accurate. They are still allowing tranny kids.
