Nirvana Bassist Shares Obama’s Deportations

Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic has posted on his social media about former President Barack Obama’s deportations during his two terms in office.

“I voted for Obama in 2008 and 2012.

I asked Google AI: Did president Obama deport undocumented immigrants?

Yes, President Barack Obama’s administration deported a significant number of undocumented immigrants, earning him the nickname “Deporter-in-Chief” from some immigrant rights advocates. His administration removed more people from the U.S. than any other president in history at the time.

Key Details:

Total Deportations: Between fiscal years 2009 and 2016, the Obama administration carried out approximately 2.7 million deportations (removals and returns). Other sources place the total number of noncitizens removed during his two terms at about 3 million.

Record Highs: The annual number of deportations peaked in 2012, with nearly 410,000 total deportations, and a record 435,000 in fiscal year 2013, according to some analyses of DHS data.

Enforcement Priorities: The Obama administration shifted enforcement priorities to focus on those considered threats to national security, public safety (convicted of serious crimes), and recent border crossers. In later years, over 90% of interior removals were of individuals with criminal convictions.

DACA: Despite the high deportation numbers, the Obama administration also implemented the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) initiative in 2012, which provided temporary protection from deportation and work authorization to hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S. as children.

The Obama administration’s approach has been described as a mixed legacy, combining tough enforcement with some forms of relief through executive action.”

Obama’s “deportations” were usually telling the illegal alien to show up for deportation court. That’s it, but team Obama counted them as “deportations” even if they went back into hiding and never showed up for court.

This was at a time when enforcing immigration laws was popular even among some Dims. So Obama pretended to play along.

Well, I bit and read the story at the link and there is nothing to determine if Novoselic had some kind of epiphany or just blamed President Trump?

“Isn’t he showing people are hypocrites?”

Maybe, no interest to go directly to whatever social media platform he posted on.

Not sure about the current situation, but 5 years ago, Novoselic praised Trump for standing for law and order in the George Floyd era. There was such a backlash against his opinions that Novoselic quit Twitter.

It’s interesting. There’s an assumption that “rock stars” are brain-dead leftist idiots, and certainly some of them are, but not all. Kid Rock and Ted Nugent swing right, as do Eric Clapton and Van Marrison.

Weren’t a lot of Obola’s “deportations” simply turn-arounds, where they just turned people back at the border?

At least he’s brave. This can’t have a good effect on the value of the Nirvana library.
The Hollywood Cowards must all fall into line.

I looked him up. “Activist.” Advocates for ranked choice voting in Washington state. But he wears a tie now.

As of 2026, Krist Novoselic is the founder and chair of the
Cascade Party of Washington, a centrist political party he launched in 2024.

The party officially qualified as a minor political party in Washington state on August 24, 2024. Its platform focuses on “post-partisan” solutions to issues such as housing affordability, public safety, and electoral reform.

I know at least one deported under Obama. He was caught with a DUI and was deported to the Czech Republic (I realize this is a n of 1).

Yeah, these commies are always lying sacks, but now their false claims can be used against them. Whenever leftists cry about Trump's deportations, it's "Obama deported all kinds of people, and you didn't cry then!"
