President Donald Trump is set to be briefed by top aides this week as he plots out the level of his response to the Iranian regime's brutal crackdown against citizen-led protests.
Trump's top military and diplomatic staffers, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, and Joint Chiefs Chair Gen. Dan Caine, are anticipated to be present at the meeting, per the Wall Street Journal.
The meeting comes as Trump is understood to be considering further US involvement in the region, but no final decisions are expected to emerge until after Tuesday's scheduled meeting. Putting U.S. troops' boots on the ground is also not on the table, per CNN.
Protests within Iran have escalated since the New Year, and the regime, led by Ayatollah Khamenei, has sought to limit its citizens' access to the West by cutting off internet connection as well as telephone lines.
Protestors have still been able to get information out of the country through the use of Elon Musk's Starlink satellite technology.
Trump has intensified his public statements since the protests began, warning Iranian authorities against using force and repeatedly expressing support for what he has described as a push for freedom.
'Iran is looking at FREEDOM, perhaps like never before,' the president noted in a post to his Truth Social account, adding that 'the USA stands ready to help!!!'
The State Department has echoed a hardline tone, pointing to previous US actions against adversarial governments as evidence that Trump follows through on his warnings.
'Do not play games with President Trump. When he says he'll do something, he means it,' a social media post from the State Department read.
Back in June, Trump directed the US military to deploy a dozen 30,000-pound 'bunker buster' bombs that 'obliterated' Iran's three largest nuclear facilities.

They need to hurry it up!
They need to get ti right.
Idea.
Bring in all the Dems to a secret meeting room. Tell them the new D-Day plans against Iran and accept that they will not, on their word of honor, tell anyone the secrets.
Maybe not.
That’s what they expected as a pre-briefing before Maduro was arrested in Venezuela. He would have been sending pretty post cards from a warm island to taunt us.
Whether the people topple the Mulllahs or the Government crushes them again will be decided in a matter of hours and the next few days. There isn’t time for meetings the situation is too volatile for that.
Guy in the corner furiously moving a Cuba sign back and forth
Israel is thinking of hitting iran too-
That would be a good way to strategically spread disinformation to the mullahs. Deliberately tell the Democrats your plans then do the opposite. Might as well put the Democrats’ treachery to some good use for a change.
> There isn’t time for meetings
That’s only a distraction, a head fake. He’s going to make a move before then.
Good plan.
Remember that General who promised his friendly counterpart in Communist China he would tip him off personally if he saw Trump was planning a military move against them.
Should have given him phony plans.
Did you all see that Trump was wearing a flag pin and
a little baby trump pin??
The guy knows how to troll !!!
My thoughts are that the Israelis will do the heavy lifting with the USA supporting them behind the scenes.
It’s not too “secret,” now.
I think the administration is monitoring the Iranian military more than anything else. This thing will succeed once the military hardliners are neutralized. The mullahs are an afterthought. We can take out the mullahs anytime we want, but Trump wants to ensure that when they’re gone (either through exile or assassination) what follows will be a stable, U.S. friendly regime.
As such, I suspect any action taken by the Trump administration will be aimed a the Iranian military and police forces.
Just subcontract the job to the IDF and Mossad, and provide high-altitude bombers if needed. That’s IT.
It make a lot more sense to find a way to get arms to the protesters and let them fight for control of their country.
Take your time, Donald, they have only killed 10,000 people in two days. No need to rush. < /sarc>
