EU Preparing for Possible Direct Confrontation with Trump — Newspaper

European governments now understand the seriousness of Trump's threats and are "desperately looking for a plan to stop him"

BRUSSELS, January 8. /TASS/. Amid US President Donald Trump's increasingly harsh rhetoric about establishing control over Greenland, the European Union is preparing for a direct confrontation with the US leader, according to Politico Europe.

"We must be ready for a direct confrontation with Trump," an EU diplomat briefed on ongoing discussions told the newspaper. "He is in an aggressive mode, and we need to be geared up," he added.

The newspaper notes that while European governments previously did not realize the seriousness of Trump's threats, they now understand them and are "desperately searching for a plan to stop him."

Trump has repeatedly stated that Greenland should join the US. He did not rule out the use of force to resolve the issue in an interview with NBC News in early May 2025.

On January 6, the White House, in a written statement provided to Reuters, commented on plans regarding Greenland, stressing that "of course, utilizing the US military is always an option at the commander-in-chief’s disposal," meaning it is available to Trump.

In turn, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt clarified on January 7 that Trump is actively discussing the possibility of purchasing Greenland with his subordinates.

“but aren’t most of the EU leaders women ? LOl”

Not really - out of the 27 European Union member states, 3 countries are currently led by women in the role of head of government: Denmark, Italy, Latvia. That’s 11.1%

Comparing it to the USA - 14 out of 50 US states have female governors - so 28% of the USA’s leaders are women as compared to 11.1% of the EU’s leaders

Very likely true, but I’d like to hear it from a more reliable source.

The only option Denmark has is negotiating a compromise. There is no military option against the USA.

There is a third option. Just so No. No compromise, no acceptance of a deal or money.

Then let the U.S. take it by naked force, in front of the world's eyes. And let the U.S. lose further credibility as a moral leader of the free world.

IOW, Denmark doesn't have to accept money. It can force the U.S. to pay in moral credibility.

That is a plan, but:

1. Currently 50% of Greenland’s budget comes from Denmark (3.9 billion DKK ($570 million USD)) - the federal govt would have to agree to put this money in annually from US tax dollars.

2. Greenland has 2 seats in the Danish parliament - the USA would need to offer one or two Congress seats

3. the official language of Greenland could have to be Kalaallisut (Greenlandic)

4. AND The USA continues with Universal Healthcare for the Greenlanders at Danish levels

If the USA allows that, the Greenlanders would have I think little to no objection to joining the USA.

Pull all of our NATO resources out of Europe and the EU can sit and spin.

Why Denmark thinks they should have the authority to veto such a deal, against the wishes of the Greenlanders, I don’t know.

For the same reason Lincoln thought the CSA had no right to secede?

Greenland officially belongs to the Greenlanders - the Danish PM herself has said that — Greenland is a separate country under the Danish crown and not ruled from Copenhagen.

Denmark can’t sell off what it doesn’t “own”.

“For the same reason Lincoln thought the CSA had no right to secede? “

This is not the same.

The southern states were officially in a federation.

Greenland is a separate country legally, under the same ruling family.

EVERYONE has a price. We are all “puttanas” when it comes to money.

You think so?

How much would Israel accept to sell Jerusalem to anyone?

Is Germany going to take a combative stance against the USA?

We have over 30,000 American military personnel based in Germany. The German economy is in shambles.

Legal goobledogook which boils down to ... I can, and you can't.

Lawyers can always come up with goobledogook justifying why their side can, and the opposing side can't.

There's no honesty in the process. Just trick terminology.

If the general population of Europe Union countries knew the perks of being a US colony, they would throw out their task master and sign up tomorrow.

It’s not gobbledegook — Greenland has a 2009 agreement with Denmark that it can leave the union under the Danish crown if it has a referendum where the simple majority agree to leave.

Ah, thank you for admitting what I've long said!

NATO does not exist to protect Europe. NATO is an American occupation force. An extension of the American Empires.

America is not protecting Europe. Nor is America protecting Greenland. America is using these nations to extend its ability to "project power."

This is in contract to Israel, which refuses an American military presence (for the above reason). Israel demands our money and weapons, but prefers to keep its own finger on the trigger.
