The crew of the runaway Russian-flagged oil tanker Marinera released the first video showing a U.S. Coast Guard Legend class cutter in close pursuit. The video was posted online Tuesday by the Russian RT news outlet as the military buildup in England continues, potentially for a future U.S. boarding of the vessel.
Until recently known as the Bella-1 before it was re-registered and the crew painted a Russian flag on it, the Marinera is part of a so-called shadow fleet. These vessels are transporting oil for Russia, Iran and Venezuela in violation of sanctions imposed by the United States and other countries. The Coast Guard attempted to board the ship, which never made it to port in Venezuela and is empty, on Dec. 20. However, the crew refused to allow it. The video posted by RT shows the cutter following the Marinera on a roughly parallel course in choppy seas in the North Atlantic. It is unclear from the video which cutter is following the Marinera. The oil tanker is reportedly located between Iceland and Scotland.

This is old news. USCG boarded it. News and video of it is all over. I’m not sure why it’s not being posted here.
Good. It surprised me that it took a couple days of “pursuing” it as if we didn’t have the means to find it and stop it. We’ve always known exactly where it is and always have had the means to stop it.
Calling this vessel a “Russian Oil Tanker” is deceptive.
This vessel was called “Bella-1” and was flagged as a Guyanese vessel.
On December 17th it turned off its tracker / location reporter while in the Caribbean and sailed into the North Atlantic. Along the way the crew painted a Russian flag on it and changed the name to “Marinera”. On January 1st they turned their tracker back on and claimed to be a Russian vessel.
This is all while it was being pursued by the US.
We seized it.

Boarding a ship that resists boarding is not easy. And obviously, not all ships resist being boarded. Most commercial ships will permit it because captains don’t want themselves or their crew to be harmed, or the ship to be damaged in a hostile boarding.

Darkshipping in violation of Maritime Law. I hope we imprisoned the crew as well as seizing the ship.
Back in 2024, the US had sanctioned the ship for transporting sanctioned Iranian oil and Hezbollah-owned cargo.

Bannon just claimed that it has been seized. We shall see what the truth is. For now I will accept Bannon’s claim, but with some reservations until further confirmation comes forth.
